What is rattan?
Rattan is a strong yet lightweight and flexible material made from the rattan plant’s stem. It can be used both whole and split into thinner materials that are braided into things like furniture and baskets. “A lot of the inspiration for KAPPELAND lamp shades in rattan came from skilled artisans in Vietnam. I made several sketches that we discussed together, and after a bit of experimenting with different weave structures, we agreed on this decorative herringbone pattern that lets light through and creates beautiful shadows in the room. The handwoven natural material and shapes means that it goes with most interior styles and spread a warm, welcoming atmosphere in your home."
