TILLTALANDE collection

Designed to create jobs
TILLTALANDE is a collection of precious, handcrafted textiles made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation and women artisans; Jordanian locals alongside refugees. It’s sprung from the urgent need to get people into work and into society, now and in the future.
Each product in TILLTALANDE is a unique accessory in its own right, a gem that will look great in every home whatever its expression. At one end we get all that – at the other, lives are changed.
The TILLTALANDE cactus pattern cushion cover is part of a collection of handcrafted textiles, designed to create jobs for women artisans in Jordan. The tassels are handmade and placed where the artisans prefer, making each cushion unique.

collab cactus
The photo of an impressive cactus growing outside one of the Jordanian artisan’s house proved perfect to print – and to sprinkle with handmade tassels. The result isn’t just a one-of-a-kind cushion where each tassel is placed where the artisan likes it best, but a proof of a great collaboration and of a great idea. The mix of print and handicraft creates jobs while still ensuring that TILLTALANDE can be offered at an affordable price, and so be available for many.

”Sometimes you’re lucky and really connect with the people you work with, like me and Faridon did. There was an instant connection with the women artisans too. They love what they do, and they can see that I love what I do. That’s a good place to start.”

IKEA designer PAULIN MACHADO, about the collaboration with FARIDON ABIDA, designer at Jordan River Foundation, and with the local artisans

The traditional Bedouin way of weaving, using only a flat ground loom, doesn’t only take great skills – it also takes time, patience and effort, and above all love for the craft.

“The shared journey with Jordan River Foundation just started. We can see that it leaves the involved women with a greater self-confidence and pride – and with the chance to plan for the future.”

VAISHALI MISRA, Business Leader Social Entrepreneur Partnership, IKEA of Sweden
JORDAN RIVER FOUNDATION
The Jordan River Foundation (JRF) is a Jordanian non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1995 and chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah. JRF has initiated numerous socio-economic projects for women, young people and children.
Since the refugee crisis began in 2011, nearly 700 000 people have officially registered as refugees in Jordan, a country of only 9 million people with high rates of unemployment. JRF is working hard to tackle the crisis by providing jobs for women refugees and for Jordanian women in need of work.
