Together for all refugees

Over 100 million people around the world have been forced to flee their homes, and this number continues to grow every year. At IKEA, we believe all of us have the right to feel at home — no matter who we are or where we come from. That’s why we’re teaming up with our partner, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, this World Refugee Day.

To support all refugees, we are looking to address two problems this year: the empathy gap and the funding gap. The empathy gap is when our personal biases and perceptions impact the way we respond to refugees. The funding gap is the money needed by NGOs and other humanitarian organisations to meet the growing needs of people forced to flee.

    Let’s take action, together

If we read new perspectives, we can start to close the empathy gap. If we donate, we can help close the funding gap. And if we get involved in our communities, we can make more people feel welcome.

Fundamentally, IKEA believes that all people deserve respect, dignity, and opportunities. We’re committed to living up to this belief: for years, we’ve worked with refugees across many aspects of our business — like Skills for Employment and IKEA Social Entrepreneurship. Now, we want to make it as easy as possible for you to join us in supporting refugees worldwide.

Together, let’s take a stand for all refugees.

    Three ways to take action

Taking action for all refugees doesn’t have to be complicated. Below, we’ve outlined three, simple ways you can make a difference today.

    1. Stay in the know.

Learn from diverse sources to broaden your perspective. Use reliable sources like UNHCR to educate yourself, and take a breath before sharing information: make sure it’s fact-based and valid.

    2. Support initiatives in your community.

You can take meaningful action on a local scale by engaging with organizations and NGOs around you that focus on assisting refugees.

    3. Donate.

Around the world, humanitarian crises are heavily underfunded. Donating to reliable organisations working on the ground, like UNHCR, is one of the clearest ways to make social impact.
