Polyester can be recycled multiple times, reducing our environmental footprint. All products containing recycled materials meet the same quality and safety demands as we have on all our products.

All the cotton in our products comes from more sustainable sources. This means that the cotton is either recycled, or grown with less water, less fertilizers and less pesticides, while increasing profit margins for the farmers.

By using recycled polyester from sources like PET bottles in this product, we consume less new raw materials and lower our environmental impact while existing materials get new life.

We want to have a positive impact on the planet. That is why by 2030, we want all materials in our products to be recycled or renewable, and sourced in responsible ways.

Great sofas!SandyI purchased 2 of these sofas recently for my sunroom. They look amazing and are really comfortable. And they are very well made.5

Excellent couchJoanWe bought this for our sunroom and now it’s our favorite place to sit. From other reviews, I was worried it might be too deep, but no - it’s comfy and slouchy and perfect for naps. The slipcover makes it perfect for our two dogs.5

Nice product. So easy toWendyNice product. So easy to assemble4
I love this sofa, althoughregulaI love this sofa, although I expected the covers to be similar cotton as the discontinued Ektorp sofa but I was somewhat disappointed in the quality of the Uppland sofa covers.5
Did not expect to ironFrancineDid not expect to iron the coverslip.....5
Not a lot of stuffingLoriI have 2 ekorpt sofas and love them, they are firm but not hard. This sofa looked just like them, but it is a larger seat, which means I have to have a pillow behind me, and the stuffing in the cushions is very minimal. It makes for a very firm, not so cozy couch. I’m sure more pillows could help, I have read that you can add more stuffing, which I think I will do.3
Its ok, I prefer theDeniseIts ok, I prefer the smaller Ektorp version. Disappointed they changed it. And the price increase was outrageous. Questioning why I bought :-(3
Just Ok!!KAREN N.Bought this sofa for small sitting room; material feels cheap in comparison to our Nordvalla Ektrop sofas and chairs in home! Also, went to add second couch and price has increased over $400! This sofa is nor worth the hefty new price tag of over $1000. Needs to be put back to $649!!!!! Cushions and material are not quality enough!3
Love this product. A greatJillLove this product. A great looking basic. I love that the slipcovers can just be removed so easily and tossed in the washing machine and that it is affordable and convenient to purchase a back up set.5
BernadetteBERNADETTE W.I had an Ektorp sofa for many years, loved the fact I could take off the covers and launder them, as well as being able to co-ordinate with the decor changes. Discovering that the Ektorp was no longer available and that the Uppland was it’s replacement seemed an easy decision to make when i was buying a new sofa. Still excellent value for money, and I like the fact there is greater depth to it, however, after only a few days there is a dip in the cushions where we sit, making them very uncomfortable. Not sure if this is just a fault with our sofa, or whether it is a general fault.3
Very satisfied with this product.LauraVery satisfied with this product.5
Love the couch it is 3 weeks old. bought hallarp beige couch Dec 2021 for $569 online. I was happy it was delivered because box is very big and it would have been a pain to get it to my apt. Unfortunately for others the price went up by almost $400 2 weeks after I bought it! Let me tell you this sofa was soooo hard to buy. I was trying to get it for over a month. I went to 3 different stores: etobicoke vaughn and north york. This item was always very low in stock and I had to constantly watch website and call customer service and waste time and gas racing to stores when it looks like there is one in stock only to find out. it isnt. Anyway there is no problem with stock now probably because it went up in price so much.Maxine T.I am happy I was able to purchase this sofa. It feels comfortable and looks good. Glad I got a light color because I think light sofas look so nice and I can wash the covers! That is the main reason I started looking at Ikea. Make sure to iron covers so it doesnt look sloppy. The back cushions did not inflate properly after a few days but after i massaged them they were a lot better. I read the instructions and watched you tube videos multiple times for assembly. I am not handy but for a regular person its not hard to put together. A man could put it together by himself but if you are a woman it is heavy to flip over. I had originally wanted a leather couch because it can be cleaned easily but I prefer the feel of fabric and the covers can come off completely so I was happy I didn't have to buy leather. If you dont see delivery option go into store to buy it and ask them to deliver. If you dont live close then it will be harder.5
Ze best 👌 👍YosanSo comfy, best couch ever!5
Uppland sofa, chair & footstoolSTEPHENExcellent product for the price. Notified by email when it was in stock, had help loading the boxes on my Ranger, carried the sofa in house piece by piece, and had everything assembled in an hour or so. Comfy and looks great. Only issue is that our choice of cover material pulls when in contact with Velcro on pant pockets.5
Great couch. Great priceBrigitteGreat couch. Great price5
We were looking for aCristobalWe were looking for a Sofa that was not costly, and when we went to Ikea, we saw this one waiting in one corner; as we tested it was very comfortable, and with the plus of changing the cover, it was like we needed this to our Living Room ASAP. Yes, we are happy to make this purchase, no regrets at all.5
UPPLAND Sofa, Hallarp gray

Our take on cotton

We use cotton in many of our products, from sofas and cushions to bed linen and mattresses. It is a soft, durable and renewable fibre that breathes and is good at absorbing moisture. All these great qualities make cotton one of our most important materials, but it isn’t without its challenges, much having to do with conventional farming methods that negatively impact the environment and poor working conditions for farmers. With our size and production volumes, we want to drive change in the cotton industry. By only using recycled cotton or cotton from more sustainable sources, working with partnerships and initiatives on the ground and prioritising compliance, we believe that we can make a positive impact in the world of cotton.

100% cotton from more sustainable sources

Since 2015, all cotton in IKEA products is either recycled or comes from more sustainable sources*. This means that we only source cotton grown using sustainable farming practices that reduce the use of fertilizers, pesticides and water, improve working conditions and earnings for farmers, and benefit ecosystem health and biodiversity conservation. We have set up a system that enables use to trace all our cotton and ensure that the final product is from approved, certified sources. *Cotton from more sustainable sources commits to the following schemes: Better Cotton (as defined by BCI, including their equivalence in various geographies), cotton from farmers working towards the BCI standard (TBC).

Working together to drive change

Each year, IKEA uses around 0.5 percent of all cotton grown around the world. This may not seem like a lot, but the number is big enough to drive change in the industry. For many years, we have been working with partners and stakeholders globally to transform conventional large-scale cotton farming and set social and environmental standards for cotton production. As an example, we helped set up the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) who runs the world’s largest cotton sustainability programme. BCI exists to make global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in and better for the sector’s future. Today, more than 110,000 farmers have adopted more sustainable farming practices within IKEA projects.

Ensuring compliance throughout the value chain

All IKEA products are produced in accordance with the IKEA IWAY Standard, our Supplier Code of Conduct. It sets out the minimum environmental and social standards expected from our suppliers, including compliance with local laws. We do not accept any form of forced labour, child labour or treatments in breach of our supply chain requirements. Our cotton teams across the globe ensure that all cotton used in IKEA products meets the demands of compliance in our supply chain. By having teams on the ground in areas where it has previously been challenging to work responsibly, we can challenge the traditional ways of working and improve the industry. If we discover that we are acting in places where we cannot ensure our requirements are being met, we follow-up on the ground and drive change.

What is cotton?

Cotton is one of the world's most appreciated and used natural fibres. Textiles in cotton are soft, hardwearing and can be washed at high temperatures. They are also good at breathing and absorbing moisture – making them pleasant to wear close to the body. Today at IKEA we use more and more recycled cotton and strive to make sure that all the new cotton we use has been grown and produced with less and less amounts of pesticides, fertilizers and water.
