Good qualityAnne-Marie P.I've had this pull out corner chesterfield for 7 years now and it looks and functions like brand-new. I pull out the bed on weekends and we play board games on it and snuggle up for movies and popcorn. It's so simple and effortless that a child can do it and it only takes seconds to pull out or put away.5
Great couch, but some problemsSarah R.We set up this couch yesterday. Installation is VERY hard. Had to look it up on YouTube because the instructions were kind of hard to follow. You definitely need two people to build this. Fabric is nice, but you do need to take the couch apart again to wash it, so I wouldn’t recommend if you have pets or kids. Its on the hard side but it’s very comfortable. The only real problem I have is the pull out part. We have only had the couch set up for 12 hours and twice the pull out section came off. You have to re hook it. We followed the instructions properly as well as looked at videos and we did set it up correctly so I am unsure why it keeps coming out so easily. Overall a good couch, especially in my apartment. I just wish it was built better for a $1000 couch.3
Very happy with my purchase!stanleyVery happy with my purchase!5
Perfect but not dark enough colourVancouver34759Love the sofa. My only negative statement would be that I cannot get a darker material cover. We have two kids and they spill things. The light cover shows stains pretty easy. So I have to take the sofa 60% apart to get the covers off. Which means 8 screws, so it's not at all an impossible feat, but it would better if we could do it less often. I would buy a black leather, faux leather or just a darker cover in a heartbeat. Function of the sofa is great, the kids love it. We have a 2 year old and she loves when we leave the extension out but not up. It's like a big two tier sofa. Very easy to build pillow forts with as it has so many pillows.5
I love my couch!Amanda90My boyfriend and I bought this couch a year ago and we love it so much! Perfect for apt living - the bed is great for family or friend sleepovers and all the extra bedding or couch blankets go into the storage part. We were a little worried the couch would be too firm, but a year later we still have weekend naps on the pulled out bed. *Bonus* after a year of having our favourite spots on the couch - no permanent dips in the couch from our butts!5
Just okay...KittWThe good: Seating is firm, but comfortable. Great storage and good space to sprawl out. I dig the clean lines. The not so good... Build: I consider myself pretty handy - this couch was an intense build. You have to flip it onto it's side for the final assemble. Wouldn't attempt on your own. Durability: We've owned it (woman+man, no kids or pets) for about a year and we're feeling considerable flex on the arm/ back rests. Fabric: Pills quickly... And super difficult to clean. We sprayed with fabric protector and it still gets grungy quickly (off-white). Covers do not come off without taking the whole couch apart (who considered that machine washable slip-covers?!). Bed: Not the most comfortable... The main seating area obviously softens before the pull out portion, so firmness is different. We put down a foam topper to dampen the ability to feel the seams. I'm saying yes only because this model was the only mostly workable option that we could find...2
Pls make a higher quality version of this couch!AnonymousThere are many good qualities to this couch, here are some: - Size: Compact frame (55 wide instead of the common 67min. width) - Versatile: The easily pulled out daybed feature and large storage space under the chaise lounger section - Price: Let's be honest, we all bought this couch because Friheten and Holmsund are $680 and $850 respectively instead of the average $1200-3000 price tags that comes with proper sofa beds...and those aren't that great either) I just wish Ikea will charge me a few hundred more and make a couch just like this one (dimensionally), but will last longer than couple years of use! So few things this couch needs: - Durable / Removable cover options (as originally promised on the product description) in possibly traditional colors (ie: black? brown? What's with the dusty pink?) - Durable tracks for pull-out section (the pull-out section on ours pop off and rolls away from the couch now even if we just put our feet up the wrong way) - Durable seating cushions, maybe like the Vallentuna's? - Durable framework - can the factory install threaded inserts to the main frame materials so it can withstand the rigors of daily use? I mean, it IS supposed to be a multipurpose couch... As you see, all my concerns are with its durability...really looking forward to seeing this couch get made right!!2
Soooo badAnonymousI bought it less than one year and it is completely damaging, the wooden sides have broken in less than few months of using. Very very bad quality. Even very hard to wash the fabric .1
Hate this sofafavazzarosieBought this a year and need to replace. Total garbage. Can’t actually take cover off to wash unless you disassemble the whole couch. The only thing you can take off and wash without fully disassembling the couch are the cover for the chaise and the back rest pillow covers. Marks and stains very easily. Also not very comfortable at all1
Arrived with the pull out unit brokenAnonymousI find this unit hard to put together, compared to other Ikea products and I have bought many over my life-time. The instructions for pulling the covers over the different parts are not too clear, but we managed in the end. Problem though, the only thing you do not have to put together is the putt out unit that makes the bed a double. Mine came broken, when I pull it out and put weight on it, it collapses and you fall out of bed. For now I stuff towels in between to stop it from collapsing. I should exchange it, but it's a big unit and a long drive. I don't use the fold out very often, but it's disappointing. After having only had positive experiences with Ikea in the last 25 years, they have disappointed me more often than not recently.2
Great sofa for our family roomTwinmommy123We have had this sofa for a couple months now. It is a firm sofa, but not uncomfortable. I have not used the sofa overnight myself, but I find it really comfortable to watch movies on. We pretty much keep the sofa in its bed shape most of the time because it looks just as good that way. Things I would like would be to have darker color options. I also found that it was easy to pull the sofa bed pull out portion off its rail. Its not broken, but it is just a hassle having to put it back on.4
Keep LookingAnonymousI am not the person to write reviews as usually I feel that either way when I buy a product, I get my value or I feel I have at least gotten fair use out of it. Unfortunately, I cannot say that about this sofa bed. I purchased this HOLMSUND for my small apartment exactly 5 years ago when moving to a different city. Reasonable price, having in cushion storage, and being able to pull out into a bed for friends when staying over really sold it for me. 5 years later, I can say I learned a lesson with purchasing these sofa beds at Ikea. After year 1, inside the end pieces, the glue which was holding the wood in place started to fail. Within 6 months, I was taking the couch apart to put screws in place to keep the couch together. So far I have had to take both the side and back cushions all apart on 3 separate occasions just to keep this frame holding upright. About year 2.5 the pullout section on the couch went away. The use of gears which holds the pullout section up rather than in its resting position show plenty of wear after years of use. I was abruptly woken up during a nap when the inside gear collapsed and me going down with it. Couches are suppose to last decades and with me moving to a new house, I decided to give IKEA customer service a call to see if they could work with me in making my HOLMSUND garner its second wind. Unfortunately, IKEA offers NO WARRANTY on any sofa bed purchases... Its almost like they knew most of these weren't going to stand the test of time. In summary, if you are looking at buying this sofa bed with the thought that this will be a staple of your living room for years to come, my advice is to keep looking. I will be buying a new couch this year and I plan on getting something that will have all the reasons I bought the HOLMSUND plus strong craftsmanship and a dash of customer service.1
Great sofa bed, but the slip cover is misleadingKendra123I bought this couch a month ago to take up to our cottage as we wanted an extra place for guests to sleep in a pinch. Love the look of the sofa, and expanding it to a bed size is great for family movie days on rainy days. My big beef with the sofa is the so-called slip cover. We were told that we could wash the slip cover, which we figured was great for a cottage scenario with small children. Well technically it is washable but as another reviewer stated, you literally have to take the ENTIRE couch apart to wash it! This is very misleading and disappointing. There's no way that I'm taking the entire couch apart (which took us about 3 hours to put together) just to wash it. Thank goodness I didn't buy an extra slip cover to rotate them, as was suggested to me in store. (And we are handy people, used to putting things together, this one took a while and was not particularly easy to follow - holes not lining up properly etc). Still happy I bought it, but they should really re-think the whole slip cover thing as being a selling feature. And now unfortunately, we need to be super careful on the couch which is something I was hoping to avoid (presuming we could wash the covers easily).4
BrutalAnonymousI bought this sofas after a lot of shopping around and in the end it came down to 2 sofas this one and the Friheten corner sofa for $799 it also has the same size storage. In fact the two sofas are exactly the same size. There are a few differences. #1 Holmsund has an arm rest on both sides whereas the Friheten only has it in the chase side. #2 the pillows. The pillows with the Holmsund come with 2 very big pillows and 3 slightly smaller ones. Looks nice in the picture but my friend bought this couch too and The pillows always look messy The minute you get up from the sofa. The Friheten has different type of pillows as you can see when you check the picture and they are also removeable and we found them quite comfortable. #3 The cover. On the Holmsund the cover comes off and you can wash it and you can buy other coloured covers down the line for 500 dollars. Eeks With the Friheten the cover is on there already and isn't removable. Those are the differences. So I bought the Holmsund in the light beige bc I figure if my kid gets it dirty I can just wash it. Got it home and NOPE it ain't that easy! You have to put the fabric on all of the pieces prior to assembling it.Then you screw all the pieces together!! There were 6 big pieces. So in other words in order for me to take the cover off to wash it I will have to take the sofa apart! Are you friggin kidding me!!! That was the only reason I bought this sofa instead of the Friheten. It's been a total hassle putting this together. Many of the holes didn't line up making it really difficult to get the screws in of course. We had to use a hammer and other tools to make it work. The instructions weren't great. I'm very disappointed. There is no way I will take the pieces apart to get the fabric off to wash it EVER!! Save yourself the 200 bucks plus tax and get the Freheten. I tried them both and the picture doesn't do the Friheten justice. It's looks much nicer in person. The Friheten comes with the fabric already on it. I really regret this purchase. No point paying an extra 200 dollars plus tax for a sofa that is almost identicle and equally as comfortable. We sat on them both and lay down so I know. Btw I've put together lots of ikea furniture and tackled The Malm King size bed with storage by myself and wrote a very positive review. I'm not a complainer unless I feel like I got burned.2
AWESOME COUCH/BEDsiobhan0317Picked this sofa bed up this week and put it together the same day. Absolutely thrilled with everything about it. The chaise is wonderful to lounge on and watch TV, it opens up to what looks like at least a queen-size bed, there's a huge area under the chaise for storage which now holds all my CD's and movies, two heating pads, two blankets and still room left over. I love the fabric and although the seat cushions are quite firm just now, they are very comfortable to sit on and will no doubt soften a little as time goes on. The customer service was simply excellent from start to finish. Love this sofa bed and love Ikea!5
