How to furnish with open and closed storage

When your living room is used for socializing, working and relaxing, you can
easily feel overwhelmed by too much stuff. But with some smart planning you can
create a calming impression. Let us show you how!
Going for a mix of hidden and open storage in your living room will help create balance. Put stuff you want to show off as well as protect in a glass-door cabinet. IKEA has a wide selection of cabinets such as FABRIKÖR glass-door cabinet in blue.
With a mix of modern furniture and closed and open storage your living room feels balanced. Put a couple of modern cabinets behind the sofa so they blend in with the interior. IKEA has a lot of cabinets such as LIXHULT cabinet in metal/grey.
1. Go for smart, multi-purpose furniture. Start by hiding things you don’t want to show off in a couple of low cabinets that also double as room dividers. Use the top surface for a small collection of books and a plant or two.
With a glass-door cabinet you can show off as well as protect your glassware or your favourite collection. IKEA has a wide selection of cabinets such as FABRIKÖR glass-door cabinet in blue. You can easily change the height of the shelves.
2. Display your favourite pieces. Put stuff you want to display as well as protect inside two glass-door cabinets. The adjustable shelves make it easy to adapt the height to your collection.
Create a modern living room! Hide things you don’t want to show off in a drawer unit. IKEA has a lot of storage solutions and storage units such as ALEX grey drawer unit on castors. This unit can be placed anywhere because the back is also finished.
3. Use matching units for instant order. When your dining table is used as a space for working, support it with some drawers on castors. Use them to store paperwork such as bills and letters or materials and supplies.
Want some balance in your living room? Hide a full shelf with some curtains. IKEA offers a wide selection of home textiles and curtains, such as LEJONGAP pink curtains. The natural material gives the curtains a slightly irregular texture.
4. Hide busy shelves behind curtains. Choose a tone-on tone colour scheme—try natural hues contrasted with some powder-pink accents. The layers of textiles also create contrasts and help improve acoustics in your space.
We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
