Nightmare Assembly of a good bunk bedMarkI'm an experienced flat pack assembler, this Vitval bunk bed is the WORST to assemble & manual provided is ambiguous. This took 3hrs to assemble. Not surprised Client sought professional assistance and I struggled. IKEA take note, label the parts that go together at least. PAX Wardrobes are much easier.3
Solid bunk bedMohammadI had reservations about purchasing this after encountering numerous reviews detailing terrible assembly experiences. Nonetheless, I proceeded because it was the only product that met my requirements. Contrary to my expectations, the assembly process turned out to be manageable. It took me around 4 hours, which is reasonable given its size and my familiarity with assembling IKEA items. Upon completion, the bed proved to be sturdy, and it's been a hit with my kids. However, it doesn't seem like it was designed for easy disassembly, as taking it apart would likely require more time than assembling it.4

This took 5 hours to assembleHunterI'm an experienced flat pack assembler and seriously this was the worst experience I have ever had. It took 5 hours to assemble. Key tip is to loosen both the vertical and horizontal screws so everything lines up. But even after we worked that out it took forever to assemble. Otherwise - looks great. 3
A worthy bedAnonymous reviewerWe were considering the TUFFING - Upon seeing the difference in build quality between the two, we instantly decided to go with VITVAL. Our kids jump around and climb around the bed - despite our advice/rules. However, it's not a worry because the bed is built like a rock! Strong, stable, everything fit like a glove. The level of precision in the instruction, in the fabrics, in the coating of the metal bars and rods. It is simply worth more than what we're paying for. Granted, it's gotta cost a lot less to do it, from the business perspective, it is worth every cent that I am paying for. Kudos to IKEA for another product well done.5

You definitely get what youKiaraYou definitely get what you pay for. Not the best quality.1
very goodJonhalf day to assemble. kids love it.5
Good product, nightmare assemblyAnonymous reviewerThe product is good, its nice quality and sturdy and does the job its meant to. Looks exactly like the picture - no complaints by the finished product. The journey to get there is another story. Assembling it was like a 6+ hour mission of endurance and perseverance. Its not particular difficult to understand what to do, but there are so so many parts and screws way more than you would expect thats not the end of the world, what is thou is most of all the tolerances on the metal pieces are sub millimeter it seems, nothing just fits into place, I regularly had to use all my strength and all the the weight of my wife at the same time to get some of the pieces to flex to fit where they are meant to go. I guess this means once it was together its very sturdy and solid as mentioned and there is no movement in it, so thats a brightside. I think it will never be able to be disassembled if that's something we ever wish to do and I couldn't face that process again knowing what it is now. If there is a assembly service for this, take it, it will be money well spent and you will be ripping them off for sure no matter how good they might be!3
Assembly a nightmare!Anonymous reviewerBought this recently. Found Instructions incredibly bad. There are many very similar parts with only very minor variations to differentiate them from each other. Not one part has any identification to help match the parts with the drawings. Even the cheapest Chinese assembly imports have lettering or numbers to identify the parts and match them with the drawings. Unbelievable that IKEA has not done this. Many previous reviews have remarked that assembly is very difficult and time consuming. Why is IKEA still selling this product without amending the assembly instructions? I plan to go back to Ikea and ask for a refund. Would not recommend this bed to anyone.1
Bunk bedMarcusSturdy. Does what it is designed to do.4
PerfectAmelieI like the size, fabric and it is very sturdy. Putting it up took a bit of time and 2 persons but I am very happy with the results. My girls are very happy too. I totally recommend it.4
GoodPaulineIt was a real pain to put together. The instructions are not clear at all. My 6 year old loves here new bed though.5
Wonderful...AnneThe bunks are sturdy and really well made. Following others renews we chose to have them assembled for us. It was a wise decision as they are quite difficult. Watching someone else do the hard work was a pleasure! They are a great buy.5
BUNKSMicheleVERY HAPPY WITH THIS PRODUCT HAVE LOOKED AT QUITE A FEW OTHERS AND THIS ONE IS THE STURDIEST ONE WE FOUND LOOKS GREAT IN OUR GRANDSONS ROOM.5
Nice kids bed. Lots ofAnandNice kids bed. Lots of screws to be fixed while assembling.4
Grandkids love itGeoffBought for the grandchildren when they stay. The bed is fit for purpose, surprisingly solid and does the job. A little tedious to assemble, but no real issues.5

Accessories for VITVAL

VITVAL Bunk bed frame, white/light grey, Single

More relaxing, less materials

Where do your children spend most of their waking hours at home? Quite likely the answer is in their bed. Because when life for slightly older children today often revolves around phones, tablets and friends, a lot more space than that “hub” isn’t really needed. With VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed, we wanted to make comfortable and cosy beds for all children who prefer hanging out there. But the goal was also to considerably reduce the amount of materials to save on nature's resources.

Metal is a durable and stable material and really suited VITVAL bed frames. The question was just how much we could reduce the amount of the metal used without decreasing stability and safety. Product developer Anna Carme and her colleagues performed detailed calculations and safety tests. "We came a long way", says Anna. "But it was not enough ― we thought the bed frames were still too heavy."

30% less metal

Experimenting with materials led to the team replacing the bed's edges with fabric. This meant that they managed to reduce the amount of metal by almost one third compared to similar beds. "We found a strong polyester material that also gives the bed a nice and cozy feel ― both when the children hang out there with friends and when it’s time to sleep."

Easy to assemble

"The fabric is mounted on the frame", explains Anna. "And to ensure that the assembly is simple for all parents, we invited a number of people to test it out." The tests then led to the team dividing the fabric into sections and making the yellow edge bands more flexible so that they are easier to pull on. "I love playing detective, to look for and investigate what we have for different alternatives", says Anna. "Nothing beats the feeling when you finally find a good solution."

Material

What is steel?

Steel has unique characteristics when it is stretched and shaped since it remains strong. It provides strength to everything from skyscrapers and cars to bed frames and outdoor furniture. The steel industry is moving in the direction of more energy-efficient production and stronger steel qualities. It doesn’t lose any of its properties when recycled and today steel is one of the most recycled materials in the world.

Form design process

More relaxing, less materials

The idea with VITVAL loft bed and bunk bed was to make comfortable and cosy beds for all children who like hanging out with their phones, tablets and friends. But we also wanted to save on nature’s resources and limit the amount of metal in the beds. So how do you achieve two so different goals at the same time? Our solution was to make the bed edges out of a strong polyester fabric that gave the bed a nice and cosy feel ― and we thereby reduced the metal by 30% in each bed.
