When the EU tightened its energy classification requirements for dishwashers in 2021, it meant that machines that were previously rated A dropped to D or E. Meeting the new A rating demands was a real challenge for all dishwasher manufacturers. “It was tough,” says André Jacobus Olivier, product development engineer for our dishwashers, “but the EU saw the potential to take it even further.” André and his colleagues turned to one of our leading dishwasher suppliers. “They found a smart way to optimise existing technology. In this case, a third spray arm was added – previously only used in models with a pull-out cutlery tray.” Thanks to the extra sprayer, water is better distributed, ensuring that the dishes get properly wet and food scraps are effectively washed away. “Then it was about optimising the water flow and temperature, as well as enabling efficient drying through automatic door opening, to meet the new tough EU requirements.”

When every little drop does more
LAGAN integrated dishwasher is our most efficient model yet in terms of water and energy savings. It’s so efficient, it has earned Energy Class A. And the best part is that we achieved this without making the dishwasher more expensive. How? By making even smarter use of 9.5 litres of water.
You’ve probably heard it before – a dishwasher uses far less water than washing dishes by hand. But a dishwasher is a big investment, and historically, the most efficient models have come with the highest price tags. In other words, being thrifty has meant spending more – until now.
New requirements spur development
Love at first dish cycle
André and his team waited eagerly for the first prototype to arrive from the supplier. “We did a test run of it straight away, and yes, the plates came out sparkling clean. The best part was that the price didn’t increase and the technology could be implemented in our lowest-priced model.” “Sometimes the best solutions are found by digging where you stand, without making things more complicated than they are.”
