IKEA Tampa Partnerships in the Community

BILLY Book Drive is first chapter of a new community partnership
Supporting childhood literacy!
Through events celebrating the 30th anniversary of the IKEA BILLY bookcase, a new partnership was formed with DeSoto Elementary School in our own neighborhood of Palmetto Beach. In-store activities including a "BILLY Brunch" with Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio reading to the 2nd-grade class, a drive to collect books for the children's own home library, and an IKEA donation of BILLY bookcases to the school is only the beginning.

DeSoto Elementary School is a Title I school located just outside of Ybor City, in Tampa. With 300+ children, it is a designated small learning community with unique educational programs.

Habitat Chic: Design Challenge
IKEA Tampa enthusiastically jumped in to support the Habitat for Humanity-Manatee County "design challenge" and benefit by donating all bedroom furniture and accessories for this two-home "design challenge."

However, we added a challenge of our own: Fully furnish and accessorize each bedroom (six in all, three per home) -- from top to bottom, A to Z -- with IKEA products, for less than $990 for each room! We knew it could be done and are awed with fabulous talents of HGTV Design Star contestant Jason Champion and "Chic on the Cheap" author Mark Dalton.

You will be too! So don't miss this special Tour of Habitat Homes. For three days -- Nov. 15, 20 & 21 -- these homes will be open to the public for viewing (with a small admission price of a $10 donation to Manatee Habitat). In addition to the home viewing, each day there's a different home-themed workshop taught by a local expert, including representatives from IKEA Tampa. For more information, visit www.ManateeHabitat.org or call (941) 748-9100 ext. 101.

Children. The most important people in the world!
A commitment to children
The Child Abuse Council and IKEA Tampa share the same commitment to help the most important people in the world: children! A $10,000 IKEA Tampa home furnishings donation to the Child Abuse Council supports this nonprofit organization's mission to help children and strenghten families.

Founded in 1977, each year CAC programs serve more than 48,000 children and adults throughout Hillsborough County through education, prevention and treatment programs.

We are proud to partner with the Child Abuse Council.

Spotlight On Children
For each SUNNAN solar cell powered lamp you purchase, IKEA will donate one to UNICEF. These environmentally friendly lamps will go to children in developing countries so they can read, write, and study after sunset (even in homes with no electricity).

These lamps come with two rechargeable AA 1.2V batteries for solar cell driven products; all it needs is a little Florida sunshine. Helping kids and helping the environment -- now that's what we call a bright idea!

How to request support
IKEA Tampa in the Community
At IKEA, we are proud to partner with a variety of organizations that help children achieve their fullest potential. To maximize the positive impact IKEA Tampa has in partnership with local organizations, we focus on (1) initiatives within the Tampa Bay geographic region, (2) nonprofit organizations with a mission-focus on children, and (3) programs where IKEA Tampa can take an active role, using IKEA coworker expertise and products.

Registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations serving children within the Tampa Bay region may submit a one-page letter describing their organization and funding/partnership request. Letters of inquiry are accepted twice a year; deadlines are September 1 & March 1.
