IKEA is Celebrating 1 Million Trees Planted
IKEA is celebrating a major milestone in its partnership with American Forests and our customers - together we’ve planted 1 million trees! These trees will help to combat climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide emissions that contribute to global warming, provide wildlife habitat and protect against soil erosion.

As a customer, you can continue to plant trees by adding $1 per tree to your total purchase at the check-outs.

IKEA AND UNICEF
Help Shed Light on Education
Need to buy a reading lamp and want to help a child in need while you're at it? Then check out our SUNNAN lamps! As of June 1, 2009, for every SUNNAN solar cell powered lamp you buy we'll donate one to UNICEF.

These environmentally friendly lamps will go to children in developing countries, so they can read, write and draw after sunset, even if their homes have no electricity.

In addition to doing something great for kids - you'll be helping the environment and your pocket book. These lamps come with two rechargeable AA 1.2V batteries for solar cell driven products, so all you have to do is give it sun. No plug in required. No cost on your electric bill. No CO2 emissions.

Help us and UNICEF to make children's lives a little brighter.

Battery Take Back Service Suspended
Until further notice, IKEA has suspended the recycling service to take back used batteries. This is due to the challenges of a new regulation issued by the US Department of Transportation (US DOT) regarding the transport of batteries.

You can still bring back your used compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs to our recycling tower located near Home Delivery.

IKEA ENVIRONMENTAL EFFORTS
Go Green With IKEA
IKEA no longer offers plastic bags. It has been over a year since IKEA's leadership 'bag the plastic bag' program started. The results are stunning! More than 92% of IKEA customers said no more plastic bags! Expectations were exceeded and IKEA learned our customers welcome the opportunity to find new ways to be environmentally responsible.

Three simple ways to go green!
- Reduce plastic bag usage
- Use compact fluorescent (CFL) light bulbs
- Recycle your non-fluorescent ligth bulbs and plastic throw away bags at IKEA Stoughton

Need to replace what you just recycled?
Our thoughts...SPARSAM, 11-watt compact fluorescent, three-pack - only $3.99!

Why reduce plastic bag use?
- The average family of four accumulates 1,460 plastic shopping bags a year
- 100 billion plastic bags are given away each year in the U.S.
- It takes up to 1,000 years for a plastic bag to break down in the environment

Solution: Buy a large reusable shopping bag from IKEA for only 59 cents

Why use CFL light bulbs?
- The more CFL bulbs you use, the more money you save; CFL bulbs last 6-10x longer!
- Energy usage and greenhouse gas emissions are lowered
- Did you know that if every U.S. home bought one CFL bulb, it would be the equivalent of taking 2 million cars of the road?

Solution: Purchase CFL bulbs from IKEA
