IKEA Round Rock Charity and Environmental Efforts

Good for the Environment
Help bring a little light in the dark for those in need.

Starting June 1, 2009- for each SUNNAN solar cell powered lamp you buy, we'll donate one to UNICEF. These environmentally friendly lamps will go to children in developing countries, so they can read, write and study after sunset, even if their homes have no electricity.

In addition to doing something great for kids- you'll be helping the environment and your pocket book. These lamps come with two rechargeable AA 1.2V batteries for solar cell driven products, so all you have to do it give it sun. No plug in required. No cost on your electric bill. No CO2 emissions. Now that is what you call a BRIGHT idea!

IKEA & the Environment
Low prices are the cornerstone of the IKEA vision and our business idea - but not at any price. At IKEA, we believe that taking responsibility for people and the environment is a prerequisite for doing good business.

IKEA works to ensure that products and materials are environmentally adapted and are safe for our customers from a health perspective. As part of our business idea, we insist on keeping costs low and always try to use resources wisely when designing our products.

Here are just a few products that you will find at IKEA Round Rock that promote our social and environmental efforts. We aim to have a positive impact on people and the environment while still offering products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them.

Thank you for doing your part… from reducing energy consumption to recycling; rest assured we will continue to do our part to ensure safe products and to increase the use of renewable and recyclable materials.

Important Update
Battery Recycling
Attention IKEA Customers:

Until further notice, IKEA has suspended the recycling service to take back used batteries.

This is due to the challenges of a new regulation issued by the US Department of Transportation (US DOT) regarding the transport of batteries.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter and apologize for any inconvenience.

Thank you.

Going Bagless at IKEA
BLUE + YELLOW = GREEN!
As of October 1, 2008, IKEA will no longer offer plastic bags. The offering will only be our iconic IKEA blue bag for only $.59 or use an alternative reusable bag from home.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. consumes over 380 billion plastic bags, sacks and wraps each year. Each year, Americans throw away some 100 billion polyethylene plastic bags, and less than one percent of them are recycled.

Join us here at IKEA Round Rock as we change our behavior and become more environmentally responsible! With the introduction of our leadership “Bag the Plastic Bag” program in March 2007, IKEA set a goal of reducing its U.S. stores’ plastic bag consumption by 50%; from 70 million to 35 million plastic bags in the first year. The call was to go reusable with the iconic IKEA blue bag for $.59 or use an alternative reusable blue bag.

And IKEA said if that was not an acceptable solution, IKEA plastic bags could be purchased for five-cents, with ALL proceeds going to the American Forests (the nation’s oldest non-profit citizens conservation organization) to plant trees to restore forests and help reduce CO2 emissions.

Now it’s been over a year since the program began and IKEA is overwhelmed with the stunning results; more than 92% of their customers said no more plastic bags! Expectations were exceeded and IKEA learned their customers welcome the opportunity to find new ways to be environmentally responsible.

Thank you for your support and keep using the IKEA blue bag for all of your shopping needs, together we can make a difference!
