IKEA helps Enlighten Children
Help bring a little light in the dark for those in need. Starting June 1, 2009- for each SUNNAN solar cell powered lamp you buy, we'll donate one to UNICEF. These environmentally friendly lamps will go to children in developing countries, so they can read, write and study after sunset, even if their homes have no electricity.

Our SUNNAN lamp runs on solar cells that transform sunlight into electricity, it requires no electrical connections. This lamp will help you save energy and reduce your footprint. LED consumes 70% less energy and has at least 4 times longer life than incandescent bulbs in similar decorative lighting. These lamps come with three rechargeable AA 1.2V batteries for solar cell driven products, it takes about 9 hours to recharge and will last for approximately 4 hours. Enlighten your life and that of a child!

No More Plastic Bags
As of October 1, 2008 IKEA has eliminated all disposable plastic bags at checkout in US stores. Only the IKEA reusable blue bag will be available for $.59. Customers are also encouraged to use no bag at all!

IKEA aims to reduce the harmful effects of plastic bag use on our planet. Americans go through 100 billion plastic bags a year! Through the "Bag the Plastic Bag" program, which began in March 2007, IKEA began charging $.05 for each throwaway plastic bag. IKEA has donated 100% of it's disposable plastic bags sales which has resulted in the planting of 516,000 trees in the US; that's enough treese to offset approximately 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions over the next 40 years. In combination with IKEA's Plant-A-Tree program, there have been 728,000 trees plantd to date (October 1, 2008).

IKEA believes that home is the most important place in the world and what home is more important than our planet?
