Adopt a House won our 2014 Life Improvement Challenge!
Hurricane Sandy damaged more than just homes in 2012. It affected the lives of many families on the East Coast of Long Island. Adopt a House in a not for profit organization that was formed to help local residents get back on their feet. They began a Children's Bedroom Program that would help children whose rooms were affected by Hurricane Sandy replace what was lost.

Adopt a House was one of our three worthy local charities who participated in our Life Improvement Challenge this year. Dedicated IKEA fans and coworkers voted for the charity they felt deserved the prize of $10,000. Adopt A House was the winner for the Long Island store.

On June 8th, we hosted a breakfast for the winners of the Life Improvement Challenge. Over 50 people attended and were surprised by our balloon twister, caricaturist and face painter.

● Each child enrolled in the Adopt A House Children's Bedroom Program received $600 worth of gift cards and a goody bag filled with delicious treats.
● A few of the children were able to shop that day for replacement furniture.
● Many are still displaced and need to wait for their homes to be rebuilt before they can spend their winning gift card.

We are so proud to be able to help these families get back on their feet. We are also proud of the work that Adopt A House does for our community. Their dedication has helped many families find the help they need. Their Children's Bedroom Program will help our young community members get back to a sense of normalcy. We can't wait to see all of our young winners spend all of their gift cards! We're hoping they share photos of their finished rooms with us.

A special thanks to all coworkers and IKEA fans that helped us select our winners.
