How to create a bedroom in any room

Oct 01 2014
With growing, blended, or extended families, sometimes you need more bedrooms than you have. If you can’t fit more people into the bedrooms, try putting a bedroom into the living space. Making way for a bedroom in your living room does mean that sacrifices will have to be made. Comfort shouldn’t be one of them. Make the bed a priority so that the new bedroom area feels welcoming and cozy to its new inhabitants.

A smart bed makes things easier, with storage underneath for keeping clothes or bed linen. This one works extra hard. The headboard has built-in shelving for things like books, glasses, alarm clock, and lights. All of which means you don’t need to find room for bedside tables.
If you’ve filled the storage under the bed, look to the walls. Long lines of shelving, like these, provide plenty of space for personal items.

It doesn’t take much to create a sense of personal space. A floor-to-ceiling textile room divider works wonders, screening off the bedroom to give each side of the curtain its own space and identity.
