A Mixed Bag of Pros & Cons!I bought this mattress foundation with the white metal legs, in this light beige color, which is closer to a light gray! Just neutral! So the thing in a Full Size, weighs 90, let me repeat that 90 LBS!!! It is a pain in the butt to get into the car, out of the car, and into the house, or in my case, condo! So, putting it together is also extremely difficult, I highly recommend paying someone to do this, it takes tons of strength and the support leg is a pain in the butt to screw in to the center beam. This thing is EXTREMELY sturdy! The cover is perfect for a minimalist look, no more ugly black frame with wheels and a tacky (cheap) boxspring, this is like a bed all on its own! Also, you will get a full workout putting it together! I got the 3 7/8" legs, it makes the bed the perfect height, I have a 14" thick mattress, so the longer legs would have made it too tall! After all is said and done and everything is where it belongs, I am VERY pleased with this Mattress Foundation! I am hoping it will hold up for years to come! Also, to keep the slats from falling, even though they don't look like they will, I put folded up pieces of cardboard in the space between the slats and the side of the bed frame and then I put duct tape over all sides of the slats where they could possibly move around and you can't see it because its covered with a lovely, slightly cushioned cover thingy (similar to a VERY thin quilt)! Thanks IKEA!!!

Not a box spring! This mattress base was designed for stand alone use. EXAMPLE: Espevar base, mattress of your choosing - Done! Nothing more is required unless you want to add legs which are sold separately. There is no need to stack it on top of another bed such as the Malm or Hemnes models. It is not designed to be used as a "box frame", as it is a bed in itself! The Hemnes or Malm models have their own system where slats are used to hold the mattress. If you stack the Espevar on top of another "type" of bed with slats you will be too tall and/ or break the other bed frame. Get the legs if you want the Espevar to have height, there are different lengths available. You are also able to screw a headboard directly to the Espevar base

Very Heavy, question the center support on queenI have the queen size. It feels really heavy . . . to the extent that I wonder if the HEMNES queen bed frame will support the weight of this base, plus the mattress, plus the weight of two adults! The base seems really sturdy though . . . I guess that is the positive.
The instructions show an options with legs if you aren't using this with an existing bed frame. The legs option shows a center leg under the center beam in the middle of the bed. I wonder when using with a bed frame why the center beam doesn't have a support under it? It's not supported in the middle by the bed frame.
Easy to transport, as the mattress base comes in a flat-pack. The solid wood slats provide good support for the mattress and allow air to circulate. Easy to get in and out of bed because the mattress base makes the bed higher. Easy to keep clean since you can remove the cover and wash it by machine. 25-year Limited Warranty.
