Small IKEA bureau and stool in the hallway, open to show phone and laptop.
Dock and recharge
A desk in the hallway gives you somewhere to put the post and drop your keys and other daily musthaves like travel cards. Best of all, it’s a great way to create a docking station for everyone’s phones and gadgets. That way you’ll always know where they are and they’ll be ready to go next time you leave.
Look for a desk that can be closed, like this one. Keeping gadgets out of sight will create a calming atmosphere – no little lights blinking or tangles of wires to look at. Just a tidy hallway.
An organized entry can set the tone for the whole day. Having everything ready to go and in its place can help you leave home on time, prepared for the day ahead.
Close-up of a row of IKEA wall hooks with keys hanging from them.
In our opinion it’s difficult to have too many hooks in an entry. Handy for taking care of all manner of things from school bags to car keys, tennis raquets to umbrellas. If your hallway floor is full of clutter, consider hooks as a solution.
Close-up of coats hung on IKEA hangers on a pull-out wardrobe rail.
In a narrow hallway, wardrobes with sliding doors add storage that would otherwise be impossible. You can keep it all in here: coats, shoes, brollies, hats and gloves, sports gear and cycle helmets. If you’ve got kids, give them some space lower down so they can tidy their own things away.
