IKEA SUPPORTS CO-WORKERS AND COMMUNITY IMPACTED BY HURRICANE SANDY

[National]  In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, IKEA is working with national and local agencies to support those impacted.
November 8, 2012 Conshohocken, PA - In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, IKEA is working with national and local agencies to support those impacted. IKEA stores in the affected areas are connecting with local governments and community organizations to provide support for the many in need. And on a broader level, we are working with Save the Children and the American Red Cross to aid those impacted throughout the region. The following is a brief overview of IKEA support and services provided through November 7, 2012.

American Red Cross: providing more than $450,000 worth of in-kind donations to be used in shelters in New Jersey and New York. Donated products include:
● 10,000 blankets
● 10,000 pillows and pillow cases
● 10,000 wash cloths
● 10,000 bath towels
● 5,800 IKEA blue bags
● 2,000 soft toys

Save the Children: providing products which help children feel more comfortable in shelters including baby blankets and play mats. Save the Children’s Westport, Connecticut offices were flooded in the storm and IKEA has provided desks to furnish temporary office space so staff can carry on their important work.

LOCAL COMMUNITY OUTREACH
IKEA Brooklyn*

● Donating essential products to the Red Hook Initiative for residents of the Red Hook Community who are without electricity. These products include blankets, flashlights, candles, water, and food.
● Supporting local businesses with basic furniture to help them rebuild and re-open.
● Providing space in the store for the U.S. Small Business Administration, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and FEMA to connect with and help local small businesses get back into operation.
● Arranging space in the IKEA Restaurant for FEMA to meet with Brooklyn residents to discuss support and services and complete applications.
● Donating furniture to the local fire houses impacted by Sandy.
● Helping local impacted IKEA co-workers secure temporary housing and donating products that will enable them to be more comfortable.
● Opening up seasonal hire opportunities at the Brooklyn store to displaced Red Hook residents who have lost jobs due to the hurricane.

IKEA New Haven
● Provided parking lot to support a local storm relief drive.

IKEA Long Island
● Donating batteries, pillows, wash cloths, an assortment of blankets, clog footwear and coffee to local organizations.
● Loaded up a co-worker’s personal vehicle to deliver blankets, pillows, and coffee to community members.

Help for IKEA Co-workers: supporting co-workers who were impacted by the storm to secure housing, services, and essentials based on their individual needs.

All IKEA stores in the impacted area are open and providing a place to stop in during the day for warmth, a meal and a place to charge their electronics.

IKEA will continue to evaluate the situation on a daily basis.

*The IKEA Red Hook Store is located in ZONE A, a highly impacted region.
