[National]  IKEA’s unique home furnishing concept and products now available in Qatar

Doha, 11th March 2013. IKEA, the Swedish furniture retailer, has officially opened in Qatar offering its unique range of home furnishing solutions to the community through its trademark blue box store at Doha Festival City. Qatar becomes the 41st country to welcome Sweden’s flagship brand.

To mark the occasion of the official store opening, Omar Al-Futtaim, Vice Chairman, Al Futtaim Group, the representative of IKEA in UAE, Qatar and Egypt presided over the traditional log-cutting ceremony in the presence of His Excellency, Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Thani, The Chairman, Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Qatar. Also present were the Swedish Ambassador to the UAE, Qatar & Bahrain Max Bjuhr, a delegation of Al-Futtaim group executives, guests and media.

Consumers visited the store on its much anticipated opening day to view the vast product range of innovative ideas and smart solutions relevant to the market, drawing inspiration for their own home furnishing needs. Families enjoyed Swedish delicacies at the 550-seater IKEA restaurant. IKEA’s trademark Småland children’s play area provided fun activities to keep the children entertained. The complete IKEA experience was complemented by great customer service, friendly and knowledgeable staff.

The new IKEA store in Doha measures in at an impressive 32,000 square metres and features a furniture showroom where customers can experience the range and diversity of some 7,500 items on display. The equally spacious self-serve area optimises the overall customer experience providing an airy pleasant environment for enhanced convenience. Customer waiting and queuing times are kept to the minimum thanks to the store’s 33 cash tills. Other amenities and facilities include spacious and free dedicated parking bays for 1,300 cars.

“Visiting an IKEA store is a great day out for the whole family, an experience which is lived by nearly 780 million people who visit our 340 stores across 40 countries every year,” said John Kersten, Managing Director, IKEA-UAE, Qatar, Egypt and Oman.

“The opening of this store is a major milestone in IKEA’s history in the Middle East and coincides with the 70th anniversary since the brand’s inception. Qatar’s impressive economic achievements, development outlook and rapid population growth coupled with IKEA’s unique offering are the pillars that assure our commercial success. IKEA is set to change the furniture retail landscape in Qatar the same way it has done in each of the 40 countries it is already present in around the world,” said John.
