You are actually the one to thank for EKTORP becoming cheaper. You and all the other people who have bought EKTORP over the years. When something is loved by so many it actually really gets us going at IKEA. An ordinary company may have just leaned back and reaped the rewards of its success. But IKEA is not an ordinary company. Instead of leaning back we roll up our sleeves and get to work.
EKTORP is a very popular sofa, with good seating comfort, a sturdy frame, washable covers, etc. But could we do something about the price? Could we lower it even more?
A challenge like that is impossible to pass up. If we could pack a sofa in a flat package, just like we do with bookcases, dining tables and chairs we could reduce the number of transports, which would reduce the price. Would it work to keep the same durability and comfort, even if we asked our customers to put it together themselves at home?

No sooner said than done. EKTORP kept the same frame and material, and with small changes to its construction it could be packed in a flat package. Thanks to that, we could load twice as many EKTORP sofas in each lorry. That meant that we needed half as many lorries to drive the sofas between the supplier and the stores. That saves money right there and means that we can lower the price. And if you know anything about the environment, you know that one less lorry on the road is also an enormous plus when it comes to carbon dioxide emissions.

That’s what happened when EKTORP got its lower price, at the same time as it did something good for the environment. Thanks to all of you who like EKTORP. Without you, EKTORP would never have this price.
