Vision and business idea
“To create a better everyday life for the many people”, this is the IKEA vision. Our business idea is “to offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them”.
We work hard to achieve quality at affordable prices for our customers through optimising our entire value chain, by building long-term supplier relationships, investing in highly automated production and producing large volumes. Our vision also goes beyond home furnishing. We want to create a better everyday for all people impacted by our business.

SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
Investing for the future
The main financial principle of the IKEA Group is to grow by using our own resources. In other words, we earn our money before we spend it. This makes it possible for us to make long-term investments for the future.
The IKEA vision is the foundation for our growth. We want to make sure that IKEA is accessible, so that more people can create a better everyday life at home. We re-invest a majority of our profits in existing and new IKEA stores, as well as in product development, sustainable solutions and by continuously lowering prices to our customers.

Growing IKEA
In 2012* we opened 11 new stores in nine countries, continued to develop e-commerce solutions and welcomed 8,000 new co-workers. Some of the biggest growth was in China, Russia and Poland, but the US and Germany also had significant growth.

The IKEA Group structure
The founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad, wanted to create an ownership structure that stands for independence and a long-term approach. That is why, since 1982, the IKEA Group has been owned by a foundation in the Netherlands. Our profits can only be reinvested, used for charitable purposes through the IKEA Foundation or kept as a financial reserve for future investments in the business.
Stichting INGKA Foundation
is the owner of INGKA Holding B.V. Its purpose is to hold shares and reinvest in the IKEA Group and to fund charity through the Stichting IKEA Foundation.
Stichting IMAS Foundation
manages financial assets on behalf of the Stichting INGKA Foundation.
Stichting IKEA Foundation
is the philanthropic arm of the Stichting INGKA Foundation. It funds programmes that, e.g., improve the rights of children in the developing world, enabling them and their families to have a better future. Get more details at IKEA Foundation
INGKA Holding B.V.
is the parent company of the IKEA Group of companies. Its purpose is to support and manage the IKEA Group.The Supervisory Board consists of: Göran Grosskopf (Chairman), Luisa Delgado, Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, Jonas Kamprad, Göran Lindahl, Peter Lund and Carl Wilhelm Ros. Ingvar Kamprad is senior advisor to the board.
IKEA Industry
is a group of companies manufacturing furniture and wood-based boards and panels, which includes development of production capacities and new strategic businesses to support IKEA’s growth. In total, IKEA Industry has around 18,000 co-workers in 11 countries.
Franchise structure
The IKEA Group franchises the IKEA retail system and methods from Inter IKEA Systems B.V. in the Netherlands. Inter IKEA Systems B.V. is the owner of the IKEA Concept and the worldwide IKEA franchisor. The IKEA franchise operation was established in the early 1980s.

IKEA of Sweden, part of the IKEA Group, has the assignment from Inter IKEA Systems to develop and set the IKEA product range for all IKEA stores. Inter IKEA Systems is part of the Inter IKEA Group.
