IKEA 21st Birthday Press Release April marks the coming of age for IKEA in the UK, and the start of some landmark activities never before done by IKEA to celebrate with customers and co-workers. IKEA 21 Years in the UK Press Pack From a rickety old shed with its unassuming exterior and cramped interior you get few clues to the remarkable retail story that began there more than 60 years ago with a young entrepreneurial man named Ingvar Kamprad. He began distributing his wares via the local milk van and, at 17, registered the name IKEA and embarked on a career selling pens, christmas cards and seeds. Five years later, these small items were joined by a newly designed armchair bearing the name RUT, sparking the first stage of what would become a revolution in home furnishings and the emergence of the IKEA we know today.
IKEA arrived in the UK 21 years ago and opened its doors to the many people in Warrington on 1st October 1987. We are as passionate about life at home today as we were then… and always will be! IKEA - 21 Years in the UK Press Pack pdf 1.9mb
UK At Home As part of our 21st birthday celebrations IKEA has sponsored an exciting new book entitled ‘UK at Home.’ It is the result of the largest collaboration of amateur and professional photographers, documenting life at home in the UK in 2008. IKEA believes the essence of home goes far beyond bricks and mortar or tables and chairs.
Instead it’s the family interactions, the diversity in lifestyles, the feelings of security, love, friendship, warmth and laughter. It’s the opportunity to just be yourself and be together with your loved ones that makes a house a home and these are sentiments which the book encapsulates. The book fits perfectly with our viewpoint that “Home is the most important place in the world.” UK at Home Website
