BILLY bookcase turns 30!

When it all began in 1979, no one in their wildest dreams could have imagined what a success it would be. Since then, the world’s most versatile bookcase has moved into the homes of millions of people all over the world. Happy birthday, BILLY!

Check out the information below detailing how we will be celebrating BILLY's 30th birthday...

Limited edition BILLY bookcases

Fans of the world's most loved bookcase will be able to take part of the festivities home with them through the launch of a limited edition 30th birthday BILLY bookcase collection. Named BILLY JÄDER, and only £39 each, the collection is designed by famous Swedish designer Annika Bryngelson, who took inspiration from Shakespeare's sonnets. But be warned... once they're gone, they're gone!

BILLY bookcase teams up with Save the Children

IKEA is excited to announce the launch a two week book donation campaign to raise funds for Save the Children, the world's largest independent charitable organisation for children.

From September 28 to October 11 2009 customers will be encouraged to bring a minimum of five of their unwanted books to any IKEA store in the UK. These books will then be donated to local Save the Children charity shops up and down the country, where they will be sold on. Profits from the sales will go towards the Save the Children charity fund, helping to continue important work in saving children’s lives around the world. In return for their book donation, IKEA customers will receive a £5 IKEA gift card to spend in store .

The IKEA 'Shakespearience'

Of course, no birthday party is complete without some top class entertainment! Inspired by the author of some of the world's most famous books, customers visiting IKEA stores throughout the UK will be treated to live performances called the ‘Shakespearience', with real life actors and BILLY bookcase taking centre stage!
