Swedish Agricultural University
Every year, the IKEA Group supports one-year scholarships for students from Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine and Russia to study forestry at the Swedish University of Agricultural Science in Alnarp, Sweden. These scholarships have been arranged annually since 2001.
The purpose of the scholarships is to support competence building in sustainable forestry in countries that are important wood sources for IKEA, and to help future forestry professionals in those countries develop relationships with each other. The students participate in the course 'Sustainable forestry around the southern Baltic Sea'.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
The FSC is an independent international network promoting the responsible management of the world's forests, and the IKEA Group has been an active member since 1993. The FSC sets international standards for responsible forest management, and accredits independent third-party organisations that certify forest managers and forest-product producers to these standards. IKEA's long-term goal is to source all wood from forests certified as responsibly managed. The FSC is the only organisation today that provides a standard to help IKEA meet this goal.
