IKEA recalls LATTJO bat cape due to risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck

06-04-2016

IKEA urges customers who have a LATTJO bat cape to immediately stop children from playing with it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.

IKEA is recalling LATTJO bat capes after reports about three children that have received marks and scratches on the neck while using LATTJO bat capes. The cape got stuck and didn’t detach easily enough from the children’s necks.

No injuries which required medical treatment have been reported, but due to the risk of strangulation or injuries to the neck, IKEA takes precautionary measures and recalls the product.

LATTJO bat capes have been sold in all IKEA markets except Russia and Indonesia since November 2015.

The LATTJO bat cape can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required. For more information, please contact IKEA on 0203 645 0010.

IKEA recalls GOTHEM lamps due to the risk of electric shock

17-03-2016

IKEA urges customers who have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to bring it back to any IKEA store for a full refund.

IKEA is recalling all GOTHEM floor and table lamps due to a risk of electric shock, after some examples of damaged cables in the lamps have been found. Damaged cables can lead to the metal body of the lamp becoming electrically live creating a potential safety hazard.

Even if the lamp is working, we urge all customers who have a GOTHEM lamp to immediately stop using it and to return it to any IKEA store for a full refund.

All three models of GOTHEM lamps – two table lamps and one floor lamp – are affected by the recall.

IKEA has not received any reports of people getting hurt, but has had incident reports from two customers and one store co-worker having received electric shocks. Safe products are always an IKEA priority and we cannot accept the risk of any more incidents. We are therefore recalling the GOTHEM lamps to avoid injuries and to create awareness of this hazard.

The GOTHEM lamps have been sold on all IKEA markets since October 2015.

The GOTHEM lamps can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required. For more information, contact IKEA 0203 645 0010.

IKEA recalls LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum for choking hazard

14-01-2016

Drum stick 3 pairs, art.nr 103.102.57          Tongue drum, art.nr 503.102.60

IKEA urges customers who have LATTJO drum sticks or LATTJO tongue drum to bring them back to any IKEA store for a full refund.

This is a precautionary recall due to 6 reports from IKEA store co-workers that the rubber ball of the drum sticks can detach or be unscrewed. The recommended age for these toys are 6+ yrs old, however a loose rubber ball can attract smaller children and in worst case lead to choking. No incidents have been reported.

The products are tested and approved to applicable toy safety standards. However, during our subsequent investigation we identified risks that the standards do not address.

“We develop products intended to stimulate children’s creativity and natural need for play. Children don’t think about safety when playing, so we need to do that when we develop products. Our mindset at IKEA is that we only sell products that we would give to our own children. Despite approved tests to relevant toy safety standards we are therefore precautionary recalling LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum to avoid the risk of any incidents,” says Cindy Andersen, Business Area Manager for children’s products at IKEA.

LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum have been sold on all IKEA markets since 1st November 2015.

The LATTJO drum sticks and LATTJO tongue drum can be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund. Proof of purchase (receipt) is not required for a full refund. For more information, please visit www.IKEA.com/gb/en/ or contact IKEA on 0203 645 0010.

IKEA has received one report where a child played with the PATRULL nightlight. He tried to remove the light from the socket when the lid came off. The child got an electric shock and had visible wounds on his hand.
