Småland (Playroom)

We encourage parents and guardians to take advantage of our playroom while shopping in our store.

Our playroom is a controlled access, fun, and safe environment for children to play while parents or guardians enjoy a small shopping trip.

If you’re interested in joining us in our playroom, please see our admittance requirements below:

  • The height requirement for entering the playroom is between 37" and 54"
  • The height requirement for entering the ball pit is between 37” and 47”
  • Children are required to have the ability to use the bathroom with no assistance (no pull-ups, no diapers)
  • Children should have the ability to understand basic English and/or French (Quebec only) and the ability to understand simple instructions from an IKEA co-workers in case of an emergency.
  • The same parent or guardian who signs a child in, must also sign the child out
  • Socks are required for entering the playroom
  • Coats or boots are required during cold weather seasons
  • Only IKEA co-workers may enter the play area
  • Children can stay in the playroom for up to 60 minutes*
If a child calls for his/her parent or guardian at any time, or the 60 minute time limit has elapsed, an IKEA co-worker will page the parent or guardian.

We are committed to providing you and your family with a safe environment and the best possible service. For special situations, exceptions to admittance requirements may be applicable. Please see examples of exceptions below:

  • Children with special needs may be permitted to enter the playroom with pull-ups or diapers, but not enter the ball pit
  • Height requirements are not applicable to those in wheelchairs
  • Other special situations may need to be addressed by a manager, however, we will do our best to allow our little guests with special needs to use our facility

*Please note: On busy days and peak time periods, children may only be allowed in the play area for a maximum of 45 minutes.

Services for the whole family

We also offers many other family-friendly services to help you have a more enjoyable shopping experience. Our store offers:

  • Baby care rooms and change tables in restrooms
  • Strollers
  • Free baby food and baby food warming stations in our restaurant
  • A special children’s menu in our restaurant
  • Unsupervised play areas for children to enjoy throughout the store
  • Småland: one (1) controlled access, fun, and safe playroom for children to play while parents or guardians enjoy a small shopping trip

Restaurant/Bistro

The whole family can enjoy hot or cold dishes, including our children’s special menus and baby food.
Our bistro opposite the exit, offers the final temptation of hot dogs, frozen yogurt and other delicious snacks.

Compact Florescent Lights (CFL) & Battery recycling

All IKEA Canada locations offer a free take-back/recycling program for expired CFLs and batteries - ensuring that these products are disposed of in a responsible manner.

Please note: This service is intended for IKEA customers to recycle only household items. IKEA Canada is unable to receive very large quantities or industrial-use products.

Parking

Accessible parking
Accessible parking spaces are reserved near the front entrance for customers with an accessible parking permit. Please remember to display your permit so it is visible in your vehicle.

Green parking
At least two parking spaces are reserved near the front entrance for customers driving hybrid or fuel efficient vehicles (cars that use less than 6.5L of gas per 100km).

Family-friendly and expectant mother parking
Parking spaces are reserved near the front entrance for expectant mothers and/or families.

Bicycle parking
Bicycle spaces are reserved near the front entrance for customers who have traveled to our store via bicycle and require a space to safely secure it while shopping.

IKEA offers wheelchairs and electric scooters for customer use when needed. They can be signed out at Ballroom and are available on a first come – first served basis.

Assistive devices
We welcome customers with disabilities and allows them to use their own personal assistive devices. We ensure that our co-workers are trained and familiar with various assistive devices that may be used by customers with disabilities while accessing our goods and services.

IKEA offers wheelchairs and electric scooters for customer use when needed. They can be signed out at Ballroom and are available on a first come – first served basis.

Accessible seating
We are committed to providing an exceptional experience for all customers and is pleased to offer accessible seating. These areas are barrier-free and feature sections that can accommodate wheelchairs.

Service animals

We welcome customers with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals may accompany the customer in any areas open to the general public, including the Restaurant / Dining hall areas, but may not accompany the customer into Småland.

Support persons
We welcome customers with disabilities and their support person. Co-workers will be properly trained to identify support persons who may accompany a customer in order to help with communication, mobility, personal care, or medical needs or with access to goods and services. Support persons are welcome in areas open to the general public, but are not permitted to enter Småland.
