We come from all over the world, but we share an inspiring vision: “to create a better everyday life for the many people”. How we realise this vision is based on our shared humanistic values. These values guide our work and build our inclusive, open and honest culture. It’s all based on a spirit of togetherness and enthusiasm. We work hard, but we have fun doing it. On May 17th, IKEA Group celebrates IDAHOT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia) to stand up for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and people of all sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBT+).
In our IKEA Group Policy on Human Rights and Equality we commit to creating a culture in which human rights and equality are respected and supported, and in which discrimination is not tolerated. Standing up for the rights of the LGBT+ community is simply part of who we are.
We encourage all our co-workers to be themselves, as we believe that acknowledging the uniqueness of each individual makes IKEA better.
Since last year, IKEA Group has been working on the first ever UN Guidance for Business on Tackling Discrimination against LGBT+ people, in cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights Office. In January 2017, the IKEA Group LGBT+ Inclusion Plan was launched to create a fully inclusive work environment, and to contribute to a positive change for LGBT+ inclusion in all areas of our business and in society.

That is why we... have been working with the gender agenda for over a decade. We are proud to be part of the first UN high-level panel on Women Economic Empowerment to help unlock potential for women to fully participate in the economy and achieve financial independence.

Commitment to diversity and inclusion means respecting each co-worker’s individuality and encouraging everybody’s contribution. For Claudia Marshall, Distribution Area Manager North Europe, it’s all about valuing the difference in her team.
But encouraging diversity doesn’t automatically mean people feel included. Claudia takes the time to make sure all team members can contribute in whatever way they feel comfortable.
”I strive to create a work climate where everybody feels respected, supported and valued for their participation and contribution to the business,” she says.

Originally from Germany, Claudia now works in Älmhult, Sweden, where she leads a management team of 10 people from Germany, Russia, Sweden and the UK. They are a diverse group, each with their own unique experiences. With their help, Claudia has managed to create an environment of genuine inclusion:

Co-worker loyalty programme
Tack! is our way of showing appreciation to our co-workers for their loyalty to IKEA and their contribution to our continued success. Through Tack! (which means ‘thank you’ in Swedish), co-workers receive an additional contribution to their pension funds. All eligible full-time co-workers within a country receive the same amount, regardless of their unit, position or salary.
