Making family time fun

We invited IKEA customers and their kids to come and share their recipes for cooking up family fun. From Sunday morning cook-ups to kitchen table art sessions, we collected a bunch of inspired ideas that you can use at your place, even if you can only spare an hour!

How much time can you devote to a family fun session?

Turn boring old dinner preparation time into an opportunity for fun by setting up the kids to draw at the kitchen table while you cook. Not only can you chat, but by getting them to draw the different ingredients, dinnertime also doubles as learning time!

Make the most of the warm weather and head outside for playtime this summer – but remember to protect little faces from the sun with an umbrella or gazebo.

Take family time out into the fresh air by having the kids help out with weeding the garden and watering the plants. Use a kitchen trolley as a work bench for potting and seeding.

The little ones love it when you let them help you bake and decorate a yummy cake (and lick the spoon once you're done). Using kid-friendly equipment such as mixing bowls with rubber bases and a stepping stool to help reach the bench will help reduce potential for mess and, most importantly, keep them safe!
