TILLTALANDE
Designed to create jobs
TILLTALANDE is a collection of precious, handcrafted textiles made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation and Jordanian as well as refugee women artisans. It’s sprung from the urgent need to get people into work and into society – now and in the future.
”Sometimes you’re lucky and really connect with the people you work with, like me and Faridon did. There was an instant connection with the women artisans too. They love what they do, and they can see that I love what I do. That’s a good place to start.”
IKEA designer PAULIN MACHADO, about the collaboration with Faridon Abida, designer at Jordan River Foundation, and the women artisans.
Jordanian artisan Tahani is one of the women who works with TILLTALANDE collection, the result of a partnership between IKEA and Jordan River Foundation. The TILLTALANDE eye pattern cushion is part of a collection of unique, handcrafted textiles, designed to create jobs – now and in the future. Made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation and Jordanian as well as refugee women artisans.
“Handicraft isn’t only a career, or a way to sustain one’s livelihood, it’s a lifeline.”

The TILLTALANDE cactus pattern cushion with handmade tassels is part of a collection of unique textiles, designed to create jobs – now and in the future. Made in collaboration with Jordan River Foundation and Jordanian as well as refugee women artisans.
How many tassels does it take to change the world?
We don’t know. But we’re convinced that they can make a real difference in people’s lives. The ones in TILLTALANDE are handmade by Jordanian and refugee women artisans and are a small but vital ingredient in a long-term strategy to empower women in the region. Today more than 100 artisans are part of the initiative, a number that’s likely to grow during the coming years.

The photo of an impressive cactus growing outside one of the Jordanian artisan’s house proved perfect to print – and to sprinkle with handmade tassels. The result isn’t just a one-of-a-kind cushion where each tassel is placed where the artisan likes it best, but a proof of a great collaboration and of a great idea. The mix of print and handicraft creates jobs while still ensuring that TILLTALANDE can be offered at an affordable price, and so be available for many.

JORDAN RIVER FOUNDATION

The Jordan River Foundation (JRF) is a Jordanian non-profit, non-governmental organization established in 1995 and chaired by Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah. JRF has initiated numerous socio-economic projects for women, young people and children.
Since the refugee crisis began in 2011, nearly 700 000 people have officially registered as refugees in Jordan, a country of only 9 million people with high rates of unemployment. JRF is working hard to tackle the crisis by providing jobs for women refugees and for Jordanian women in need of work. www.jordanriver.jo
