Your best balcony: the sometimes-social center

01 February 2017

Your balcony may be tiny, but who says you need lots of room to have a great time with your crew? Or on your own, for that matter. What you do need is a few smart tricks up your sleeve to maximise your space and cosy it up a bit. We’ve got you covered, so just read on.

A balcony decorated with a small table, floor lamp, two rugs, a shelf, plants and extra stools.

Think of your balcony as you would any other part of the home, and create the feeling of a small living room. For moments when you’re not entertaining, keep it simple: a comfortable little sitting area with a couple of chairs and a table to enjoy your breakfast or a book, and a durable shelf to hold everything from potted plants to drinking glasses and a carafe of water.

Textiles soften up the space almost instantly and create a deeper sense of style. Layer a couple of outdoor rugs, lay out a few cushions, and have a few throws ready for when the temperature dips. But remember, while mixing patterns is a fun way to add depth, working in a similar colour palette helps to ground the look and keeps things from appearing too busy.

When the sun starts to set and the party begins to rev up, set the mood with lighting. We love solar lights for their efficiency and sustainability alike. Plus, they make things really cosy. Then just extend the table, bring out the stools you’ve had stacked and hung in the corner, and bring out the food. Have fun!

We love to see our customers get creative with our products. Go for it! But please note that altering or modifying IKEA products so they can no longer be re-sold or used for their original purpose, means the IKEA commercial guarantees and your right to return the products will be lost.
