The ultimate vanity (teen girl edition)

10 December 2015

Pretty much no one looks forward to the morning rush. Especially when you’re sharing the bathroom with your parents. And your siblings. Nope, no one’s into that. Here’s how we suggest revamping the routine. We even had a few tough critics (teenage girls) weigh in.

An IKEA cabinet is turned into a vanity. The words “Keep out” are painted on the front, a circle has been but from the doors for a view of the interior. An IKEA cabinet is turned into a vanity. Every morning routine starts in the bathroom. Brush your teeth, hop in the shower... You know the drill. But after that, why linger any longer (especially when the rest of the family is lined up to get in)? A cart on wheels makes it easy to move bulky items from bathroom to bedroom, and each family member has their own shelf to save space.

“I’m a beauty junkie, and a little tired of my makeup and moisturizers suddenly going missing,” said Inez, 18 (and pretty much every other teenage girl with a sister). Solution? A vanity in your bedroom gives you a bit more privacy and more space. Park the trolley in a designated spot complete with outlets for hair dryers and curling irons.

The beauty of this IVAR cabinet is that it’s so easy to customise. We used a saw to cut a hole in the doors (because you might not want to share your stuff, but it’s too good to hide) and added simple fairy lights for a little glam and extra bightness for makeup application. Paint it to fit your style (using the same colour as the walls helps it blend in), add an extendable mirror for close-ups, post a few inspiring beauty shots, and you’ll probably never want to leave.

“I love that you can personalise this cabinet! I would have chosen to paint mine purple, but the lights are super cool. ”
