‘My friends call the style of my home “Reko-style”. That makes me smile. I like finding small ways to make it feel out of the ordinary’
Reko, company staff, Dongguan
Don’t go out. Stay in!
Make your home a warm and inviting place for loved ones to gather with colourful table settings and playful details. ‘Weekends are for friends,’ says Reko. ‘I like to chit-chat over coffee or cook dinner. It’s fun recreating recipes I’ve tried elsewhere and adding my own twist!’
Show your treasures
Add interest and personality to your home by displaying mementos that tell your story. ‘I always bring some treasure back from places I visit,’ says Reko. ‘It could be a piece of pottery, some fabric, even a few stones. Surrounding myself with these things cheers me up.’
‘When I moved in, this apartment felt sad, cold and bare. Adding more of “me” has turned it into a place to enjoy’
My tidy, happy food laboratory!
‘My kitchen is where I experiment with new dishes,’ says Reko. ‘I like to be spontaneous with food and cook from scratch. Adding the trolley created more counter and storage space. I prefer a Western-style kitchen as it’s functional for me and reflects my interest in international cuisine as well as Chinese.’
Personalise your kitchen
Show who you are, even in a small space. Reko loves her collection of kitchenware and cups and hangs them on walls and from windows. ‘I don’t like to hide my things in cabinets,’ she says. ‘I want my kitchen to feel fun, even if it’s just for me.’
Go big with an urban balcony
Create a lush city oasis in a limited space by taking a leaf from Reko’s book – layering big and small plants, natural elements such as pebbles and hanging lights. ‘I live close to an industrial zone, so green surroundings and fresh air are important to me,’ she says.
‘Home is somewhere I crave whenever I’m tired. My life there is green, comfortable and free’
