Awkward no more: the spaces in between

21 September 2016

Odd, tight and unusable. At first sight, that is. But those weird spots crammed between walls, doors, windows and pieces of furniture actually can make a world of difference if you plan smartly. Here’s how we did it.

1. WHEN YOU’RE RUSHING OUT THE DOOR, the last thing you need is a last-second search for your essentials. So use your limited space by the door to create a place for your keys, gym bag, glasses, etc. You can even add a little charging station for your laptop and phone so they’ll be ready to go when you are.

2. GOT A BIT OF SPARE SPACE NEXT TO THE SOFA? It’s a perfect place to keep must-haves for relaxing moments, like remotes, books, and a carafe of water. We used two add-on desk organisers. Smart, huh?

3. NO GARDEN? NO WORRIES. Place a couple of trellises between your windows, where they’ll get plenty of light. Yes, it looks great, but you’ll also be within arm’s reach of fresh herbs at dinner time.

4. DISPLAY BETWEEN THE LINES. We used a rail to make the most of this narrow spot, and hangers and clips are perfect for displaying artwork, magazines and more.
