[National]  IKEA is closely monitoring the situation in Japan after the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear incidents.
IKEA Japan continues the in-kind donations. IKEA will now start to provide Osaka city with 500 sets of mattresses, quilts, pillows, quilt and pillow covers for use in a temporary care facility being set up by the city government. This is in order to help 500 dialysis patients who will be moved from Tohoku region to Osaka due to lack of functioning medical facilities. IKEA continues to send trucks to the affected areas on a daily basis, to assist the people with quilts, lighting and food.

Customers are invited to help as well through the donation boxes IKEA has placed in the stores. Prices on certain articles are reduced by 50% and customers are able to donate those articles to the evacuation areas.

Since the situation in Japan is still uncertain, IKEA has decided to further postpone the re-opening of the three stores in the Tokyo area; Funabashi, Kohoku and Shin-Misatu.

The safety of our co-workers are important, therefore IKEA has offered all co-workers and their families around Tokyo as well as the co-workers transferred to Japan by IKEA, to relocate. IKEA Japan is led from the Kobe Store.

IKEA continues to look into how to provide more long-term support for the people in the affected areas and follow the recommendations from WHO and other organizations.
