Martin, 36, has worked for the IKEA Group for 12 years and has been IKEA UK & Ireland’s Country Manager for the last three and a half years. Under his leadership, significant investments have been made to lower prices across the range to make IKEA even more affordable for customers, to introduce new services to make it easier for customers to shop at IKEA, and to inspire customers with home furnishing solutions that are more relevant and accessible to them. Over this period IKEA became market leader in the UK and Ireland for the first time, growing market share from 6.1% in 2010 to 6.3% in 2011.
Martin will be replaced by Ian Duffy, currently the IKEA Group’s Regional Retail Manager, Asia Pacific, who will take on his new role from 3rd January 2012.
Ian began his IKEA career in 1987 as Store Manager, and formed part of the management team that opened the company’s first UK based store in Warrington. His later assignments within the IKEA Group include Country Manager, IKEA Denmark as well as Country Manager, IKEA China. Ian has overseen the establishment and expansion of IKEA in Asia Pacific and successfully dealt with the specific challenges faced in extremely diverse markets. 24 years of experience around the world, combined with a deep knowledge of the UK market will enable Ian to build on the legacy left by Martin Hansson and strengthen the position of IKEA as leader of the home furnishings market in the UK and Ireland.
Ian will become IKEA UK & Ireland’s first British Country Manager.
