IKEA has launched the latest iteration of STOCKHOLM, the brand’s high quality collection designed for everyday use through long-lasting and design-led pieces. The 47-piece range is created through detailed design elements using the finest materials, without compromising on affordability.
IKEA’s very first STOCKHOLM collection was launched in 1984, with each new collection taking different inspiration but keeping a shared focus on Democratic design: Scandinavian modernity of the highest quality in form, function, sustainable materials, all at an affordable price. The collection starts from as little as £4 for a carafe.
The latest instalment of the STOCKHOLM collection, which features pieces including sofas, coffee tables, vases, pillows, rugs and lamps, has a strong quality focus with everything from materials and suppliers selected with care. Designer Nike Karlsson travelled to Indonesia to learn the art of bending rattan alongside the local craftspeople; the STOCKHOLM armchair, cabinet and coffee table was the result. Collaborating with local craftspeople and using tactile materials such as rattan, velvet and hand-blown glass, as well as the natural feel of beautiful woods such as ash has helped ensure the best possible quality for the STOCKHOLM collection.
The collection is well made with beautiful proportions, great comfort, clever, multiuse functions, and high-quality materials for durability. Viveca Olsson, the Creative Leader for STOCKHOLM 2017 sites the sofa as her favourite piece as it has been designed to be a 24/7 sofa – the front is harder making it easier to eat and work from whilst the softer back makes it perfect for relaxing and socialising.
Viveca Olsson, STOCKHOLM Creative Leader at IKEA comments that:
“Each STOCKHOLM collection is created with the same values in mind - exciting quality for everyday use; long-lasting products made with graceful materials; pieces with well-thought-out, everyday functions and warm, human qualities with a caring, homely feel. This year’s collection is no exception; inspired by Swedish light and nature, STOCKHOLM 2017 brings together the feeling of wellbeing with sustainability and convenience. With tactile, materials and fabrics and a dark Nordic blue colour scheme, it’s furniture that isn’t just beautiful to look at, but designed to be used and enjoyed for many years to come.”
The new STOCKHOLM collection launches in store and online in April 2017. The press pack is also available to download from our press room: STOCKHOLM 2017
