Locations under development
We are continually exploring potential locations across the country for our future expansion plans. Currently we are considering the following locations:
In January 2014, Exeter City Council made a recommendation to grant outline planning consent for a new IKEA store and up to 220 new homes on land adjacent to the A379 and Newcourt Way in Exeter, Devon.
We are currently pushing ahead with all the remaining applications needed to construct the IKEA store. The applications will be submitted to Exeter City Council shortly, starting with the ground works and followed by the detailed design of the building.
In March 2014, the Royal Borough of Greenwich made a recommendation to grant outline planning consent for our plans for an IKEA store on Bugsby's Way, providing a significant new sustainable development on the Greenwich Peninsular and creating up to 400 job opportunities for local people.
IKEA received ownership of the site in September 2015 and works to dismantle the current building on site was initiated end of February 2016. We continue to develop our detailed designs for the store and expect to submit our final plans for the store to the Royal Borough of Greenwich in February 2017. This is to allow enough time for us to develop plans that represent the very best IKEA store for Greenwich.
In June 2014, Sheffield City Council made a recommendation to grant planning consent for a new IKEA store off Sheffield Road, next to the Meadowhall Retail Park. The decision recognises the significant contribution an IKEA store will bring to the local economy and jobs market.
In early 2015, IKEA received the consent for the Sheffield store, having finalised the legal process with the Council. We will now continue to work with the City Council and Highways Agency to develop detailed designs for the highways works, which need to be completed before the store can open.
We are currently progressing with the site enabling works on our IKEA Sheffield site. We have also appointed a main contractor that will be responsible for the construction of the store. Our highways contractor has already commenced with highway works. Meanwhile, we are working together with the City Council in order to discharge all of the remaining planning conditions.
Frequently asked questions:
When will these stores be open?
- For IKEA Greenwich and IKEA Exeter we are still in the planning process and are working towards providing detailed final designs to the Councils for approval. It is too early to say when these stores will open.
- For IKEA Sheffield we are working to discharge all the necessary planning conditions to allow us to start on site. It is too early to say when this store will open.
How do I apply for a job?
We will be recruiting co-workers to join our IKEA Sheffield team shortly. Click here to check any updates on available positions. Check out our available jobs (select ‘United Kingdom’ and ‘national’ when instructed)
For all other stores, it is too early to recruit for positions at the moment. However all jobs will be advertised here on the IKEA website as soon as available. Find out about positions that are currently available in other IKEA stores and what it’s like to work with us here.
