Calculate Your Carbon Footprint
A carbon footprint is a measure of the impact our activities have on the environment, and in particular climate change. It relates to the amount of greenhouse gases produced in our day-to-day lives through burning fossil fuels for electricity, heating and transportation etc.

Use the link below to calculate your carbon footprint and view a breakdown of your CO2 emissions; for example, home, appliances and travel. Compare your footprint to the national average and create an action plan to make improvements.

IKEA and the Woodland Trust
IKEA co-workers and customers can create a Foot of Forest with the Woodland Trust just by shopping in store!

Did you know that the UK is one of the least wooded places in Europe?

Woods are important! For generating oxygen, absorbing carbon, creating homes for wildlife, and being beautiful green spaces for us all!

So every time an IKEA FAMILY card is swiped, IKEA will donate 10p to the Trust, which is enough to create one square foot of forest.

With your help, over four years we aim to create enough woodland to cover an area the size of 82 IKEA stores and their car parks!

IKEA Checks Out of Plastic Bags
IKEA Becomes First Leading UK Retailer to Phase Out Single-Use Plastic Bags.

Since IKEA UK started charging for plastic carrier bags in June 2006, plastic bag consumption has been reduced by 95%.

All profits from charging for plastic carrier bags (circa £35,000) have been donated to England's Community Forest.

IKEA and WWF began cooperation in 2002 to jointly promote responsible forestry and combat illegal logging. We are currently working on projects in: China, Russia, Bulgaria, Romania, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Camdodia, Indonesia and Ukraine.

Record attempt with the Woodland Trust
The Woodland Trust in association with the BBC are making two separate attempts to break the current world record by planting a minimum of 20,000 trees, and they want their corporate partner IKEA to participate.

The Record: Most number of trees planted in one hour by 100 volunteers.

Date: Saturday 5th December 2009

IKEA Lakeside co-workers are proud to be one of the six stores to participate.
