IKEA Southampton | People + Planet
At IKEA Southampton we like to encourage and help our co-workers to learn more about sustainable living.
We selected a group of co-workers from our store to take part in our Sustainable Living Project: Live Lagom. Each co-worker was given £500 to choose IKEA products for their home to help them save water, energy and reduce waste. Here’s a few things they learnt along the way …
Ann – LED Bulbs
“My family and friends have visited since my new lights have been fitted and their response is very positive, they really like the IKEA lighting and some were shocked they were IKEA. Also the difference in light source is amazing!”
Shaun – SORTERA Bins
“Since having the SORTERA bin, the largest improvement for us has been waste. Our recycling has increased and the amount that goes in our black bin has reduced considerably. We use our SORTERA bin to store and we also make a trip to the bottle bank monthly and the kids love throwing them in to see who can make the loudest smash.”
Debbie –STABIL Steamer
“I have really enjoyed using the STABIL steaming tiers as it has reduced the amount of water I use in my home. Instead of using another pot and twice as much water, I can use one pot and the STABIL steamers to cook my food and it saves time too!”
We are dedicated to giving back to the local community while being regarded by our customers and co-workers as a socially responsible company. Each year IKEA Southampton supports a community project that will have a positive impact on children, their families and the communities they live in.
We are currently accepting applications for our next Financial year which starts on September 1st 2016.

Electric vehicle charging
Here at IKEA Southampton we have installed an electric charging point for cars. It is situated on the ground floor (Level 0) of the car park. It is a rapid charger unit, which means it can recharge an electric vehicle, such as the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, from empty to 80% full in just thirty minutes. The charging point is free for all customers to use and there is no charge for the 100% sustainably sourced green electricity from Ecotricity.
During the Summer of 2011, we at IKEA Southampton installed nearly 5000 Photo Voltaic (PV) solar panels on our roof. These solar panels generate renewable, sustainable and green energy for our store.
