Compared to incandescent light bulbs, LED bulbs use 85% less energy.
Switching to LED can help you save energy and money off your electricity bill.

Sustainable Life at Home

To help IKEA co-workers learn more about what sustainable living really means to the many people, 20 co-workers from IKEA Southampton were given £450 to choose IKEA products for their homes to help them save water, energy and reduce waste. Here's a few things they learnt along the way...

Sinbad - MULIG

"Since I got the MULIG, we have not used our tumble dryer once. The fact that it works while fully open (holding 2 loads of washing at once), or folded up with only 1 half in use (1 whole load) is great, as it takes up very little space in our house. It can even fit perfectly in our bath tub beside the window, taking up zero space in the rest of the house. When not in use it folds completely flat and is hooked on our wall in the bathroom behind the door, making it almost invisible. Some people I spoke to commented that it might only really be suitable for smaller clothes, but with MULIG's great adaptability you can close some of the racks down, leaving much more room for bigger clothes to hang. The lower racks are also very nice for my children to help out too!"

Alex - RUTINERAD

"I replaced my old oven for a new RUTINERAD and the effects are amazing. This energy efficient class A oven saves me about £20 a month. You can cook several meals simultaneously, for example I cooked roast pork with potatoes on the second shelf and the results surprised my family - a very delicious crispy meal!"

People and Communities

Community Support Package

We are dedicated to giving back to the local community while being regarded by our customers and co-workers as a socially responsible company. Each year IKEA Southampton supports a community project that will have a positive impact on children, their families and the communities they live in. This year we are supporting Milford on Sea Primary School to provide them with furniture, transforming an old shipping container into an Eco Pod. The children will then be able to take their classroom learning outside, to get closer to nature and learn about the environment.
Applications for support are currently being accepted for projects starting in September 2015. Click here for more information and how to apply for Community Support.

Trees for Communities

IKEA has been supporting the Woodland Trust with the ‘foot of forest’ campaign since 2007 and over this time 309 acres of new native UK woodland has been created for everyone to enjoy.

Eco Tours

Here at IKEA Southampton we'd love for you to come and visit us behind the scenes. We offer community groups of all ages and sizes, the opportunity to see how IKEA works on a local and global level. Over the years our visitors have learned why IKEA flat packs, how we are a zero waste to landfill store and how we save energy.

Energy and Resources

Electric Vehicle Charging

Here at IKEA Southampton we have installed an electric charging point for cars. It is situated on the ground floor(Level 0) of the car park. It is a rapid charger unit, which means it can recharge an electric vehicle, such as the 100% electric Nissan LEAF, from empty to 80% full in just thirty minutes. The charging point is free for all customers to use and there is no charge for the 100% sustainably sourced green electricity from Ecotricity.

Solar Panels at IKEA

During the Summer of 2011, we at IKEA Southampton installed nearly 5000 Photo Voltaic (PV) solar panels on our roof. These solar panels generate renewable, sustainable and green energy for our store.

The video to the right gives you a little preview of what our roof looks like.

IKEA wants to help you live a more sustainable life at home. That's why in 2013 we teamed up with with Hanergy.
