Swedish dishes

Swedish traditions

Traditionally Sweden is probably best known for its meatballs as its everyday dish. Meatballs are still enjoyed in Sweden today by both children and grown-ups.

Visit our restaurant today and try our meatballs for a real taste of Sweden!

Alternatively why not a dish with prawns, which have always been very popular in Sweden and are still popular as a delicious and convenient dish. The prawns are caught in crystal clear, ice-cold depths of the waters around Greenland. Thanks to the slow growth rate in these unique living conditions the prawns have a very delicate taste and a firm texture.

Besides we offer a lot of seasonal dishes. So keep your eyes open for seasonal changes!

See below for a selection of dishes from our IKEA restaurants. We cater for all tastes!

Children's menu

Yummy Mummy!

Our restaurants offer a great selection of kids' meals, giving you the opportunity to spoil your little darlings.

Don't forget to pick up their free piece of fruit.

We take our responsibility to our children seriously and the development of our children's range is a priority. We recognise that children need lots of energy and nutrients from food, particularly when they are growing, and that is why we are taking steps into providing meals that are nutritious, fun and have a healthy balance.

So we use Non Hydrogenated frying oil which is rich in monounsaturated fats (which help reduce blood cholesterol levels) and is also naturally high in the antioxidant Vitamin E - which helps to protect cells from damage by free radicals. We also keep frying to an absolute minimum and where possible oven bake meals for our children's menus.

IKEA's food policies - enjoy a meal with full confidence!

IKEA's policy on purchasing food

People are becoming increasingly concerned about the source and content of the food they eat. IKEA provides delicious food that is also safe and healthy, and, as an environmentally and socially responsible company, is taking steps to meet higher environmental and ethical standards in the food we serve and sell on our stores.

Food legislation

IKEA and its suppliers are required to meet with all international and national food legislation. So we do our best to support the preservation and protection of the environment and assure a honestly and ethically sourcing respect the rights and interests of all of those included.

UTZ certified coffee

We guarantee a coffee grown and sourced in a responsible way, taking both people and environment into consideration. To become UTZ certified, producers and cooperatives must conform a lot of requirements, e.g.:

- All employees must be trained within health and safety procedures
- Workers and their families must have access to proper healthcare and schools
- Minimizing the use of energy, water, fertilizers and pesticides
- Preventing soil erosion

Fairtrade tea

To ensure disadvanteged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal, we only purchase Fairtrade tea at a specific minimum price. So we help to make the world a better place for every-one!

IKEA demands concerning animal welfare

- Journey times for transporting animals to be minimised
- No antibiotics or hormones to stimulate growth
- No meat or bone meal in animal feed
- Fish farming in as natural an environment as possible

GMOs

A GMO is a Genetically Modified Organism. Genetic engineering places a gene where it could not occur naturally e.g. implanting a gene from arctic fish into a tomato to increase frost resistance. There is a real fear that it is unpredictable in its effects on the environment, livestock and humans.

IKEA will not accept GMOs in food or animal feed

IKEA encourages and supports organic farming and purchases organic products when they are commercially available.

We take our responsibility to our children seriously and the development of our children's range is a priority.
