Window dressing

A film showing how to change the curtains in the living room using different layers of sheer and thick curtains.

Let’s get lost in layers

With layer upon layer of different types of curtains, you can turn your window into a cozy and constantly changing scene. It’s beauty that also serves practical functions - the curtains can be drawn to and from as necessary to adjust the light, sound, temperature and privacy. Let these solutions guide you towards getting the weekday escapes you want.

Oh, the magic of natural light

1, 2, 3 - it’s easy. A sheer layer creates a poetic filtering of the light and stops reflections on screens. A second layer adds privacy, and a third curtain on top shuts out much more light as creating moments of comfort as well.

Night shift

Need to catch up on some sleep? Change your bedroom from daylight to complete darkness with an inner layer of block-out blinds. A thick curtain on top brings cozyness and dampens sound.

Baby, it’s cold outside

Did you know you can adjust the temperature with thick curtains and a blind? HOPPVALS blind creates a layer of insulation, keeping your room warmer during the winter and cooler in the summer. It can even save energy in the colder months.

Quiet, please

Maybe you’re trying to get work done from your living room and get distracted by a noise from the outside. Create a quieter home with a layer of thick curtains. Look for heavy materials such as velvets and linen.

Do not disturb

Layered curtains help shut the world out when you want. A sheer interior layer lets natural light in but still creates privacy. A thick curtain on top blocks out much more light and dampens sound.

Because, it’s just safer

We believe children are the most important people in the world. Therefore, we adapted our range of blinds and curtains to make your windows as safe as possible. We spent four years coming up with alternatives, and where we couldn’t, we simply removed the product from our range. So now all IKEA blinds are completely safe for your kids.
Goodbye cords, hello peace of mind.

A drawing showing how to measure your window.

How to measure your windows for curtains

Part of the secret to creating really beautiful, easy layered solutions is making sure your window is properly measured.

1. The width of your window (a)
This determines the width of your curtain rod or track rail. Add at least 15 cm on each side to allow the curtains to cover the window properly and open completely.

2. The length of your curtains (b)
This determines the length of your curtains or panel curtains. Measure from the top of the window frame and stop where you want your curtains or panel curtains to end. As a rule of thumb, add 15 cm to the measurement. Mount the curtain rod or rack rail 15 cm above the window frame.
