“growing in water is an amazing thing. you can have a small box at home or at a large commercial greenhouse. most of the vegetables we eat today are grown hydroponically.”

Håkan Asp, Swedish university of agricultural sciences.

The magic in these efficient gardening systems is basic plant science. Developing VÄXER and KRYDDA series was a collaborative process between agricultural scientists in Sweden and one passionate product developer at IKEA. “We wanted to create gardening kits that would simplify for people to grow their own herbs and vegetables 12 months a year. Whether you live in the northern parts of Sweden in the wintertime or if you live in China or North America, you should be able to succeed with your garden. It’s about creating a more sustainable and healthier life at home for everyone”, says Ronnie Runesson, product developer at IKEA.
