TREND ALERT: AUTUMN COLOUR STORY

01 August 2015

Trends come and go every season. It can be hard (and kind of exhausting) to keep up with all the changes, and even harder to figure out how to work them in at home. So we’ve rounded up the three biggest colour trends for the fall, and a few simple ideas for how to pull them off.

IN BLOOM

Florals tend to go hand-in-hand with springtime. But this fall they’re bigger than ever. Literally. Large-scale floral patterns are everywhere. Feeling overwhelmed by the options? We get it. Our interior designer Nathalie recommends going for textiles. They’re easy to experiment with, swap out, and take care of. One fun and a little bit unexpected way to bring some in is with this DIY vase cover.

EARTHLY DELIGHTS

The natural look is always in style with us, and this fall is no exception. Go for pieces in cork, rattan, twine, linen and unfinished wood. And remember that “natural” can come in lots of different shades. Nathalie suggests mixing them all together to keep things interesting – from light blonde to deep and earthy. Looking for an easier way out? Just take a walk outside – things like twigs and pine cones would also do the job.

MARINE LIFE

Vibrant shades of blue and green are making their mark this fall. Nathalie says that the easiest way to embrace this trend is to add pops of colour here and there with things like glassware, ceramics, throw pillows – even decorative paper pouffes. But you can also go all out with a brightly painted wall and matching wall shelf if you’re really feeling the blues.
