20 June 2016

Add some colour and fun to mealtimes this season with simple table-setting ideas, such as wedding planner Hellen’s. ‘Small details can make even an everyday family dinner feel like something to celebrate,’ she says.

Say it with flowers

’I love fresh blooms and I like to find different ways to use them,’ says Hellen. ‘Creating a setting with them takes a bit of time, but it makes everyone feel special. Because of my work as a wedding planner, we often have leftover bouquets, but you can just as easily buy or pick a few.’

‘Our colour palette at home is from our wedding – white, black and blue. Setting the table in the same tones looks and feels harmonious’

Mix and match

‘Sticking to a simple colour palette frees you up to have fun with patterns,’ says Hellen. ‘I’ve always been drawn to graphic prints and enjoy playing around with different combinations, using plain-coloured plates to break up the layers.’

‘I work from home, so for me, setting the dinner table is a ritual I enjoy. It separates work time from family time and allows me to be creative in small ways’
