How to make an adaptable 2-in-1 dining space

01 October 2015

If you’ve got keen eyes you might have noticed this stay-at-home supper club style set up from this years catalogue (if you haven’t check it out here, there’s even a fun movie too). What you can’t see is that the whole solution can be folded away when the party wraps up. Come have a closer look and see how it’s done.

This dining set-up isn’t just for parties and entertaining, it can also be folded and stored away to be more practical for small spaces too. We’re really keen on on/off solutions when designing rooms here in the studio. Simply put they’re rooms that can be switched on for something active like entertaining, then switched off by storing everything away and using it for something more relaxing. On/off set-ups work great in smaller homes where you don’t have room for two separate rooms.

Using bench seating as storage is a really practical way to make two uses out of a really small space. They fit great into corners, are great for casual and more formal entertaining and have loads of storage underneath. We like the idea of using them to store all your entertaining supplies like table cloths and serveware untill your next dinner get together.

We also think it’s really practical to have a dining cabinet right by your entertaining space, so that everything’s easy to find and keep separate too (especially if it’s special dinnerware). Plus with it so close you can reach and grab dessert bowls without stepping out of the conversation.

Drop-leaf tables are the big heroes of this set-up. By using two you can make lots of room for guests, then just fold them down for using during the week. You could even make a workspace using one of the tables and a quick breakfast spot using the other.
