6. Why do I have to assemble the products myself?
Self-assembly means not having to pay the cost of someone in a factory doing it for you. So taking control yourself helps to control the price you pay, for the better However, if you prefer we can recommend an independent service provider offering a home assembly service in your area. There will be a call out charge in addition to an assembly charge. Arrangements can be made at the Home Delivery Desk at the end of the store.

Many IKEA stores offer a home decoration service if you wish to furnish an entire room or home. Most IKEA stores also offer an assisted self-planning service. 10. I've lost something at the store - how do I get it back?

1. When am I entitled to claim a VAT refund and what do I need to do to obtain one?
If you are purchasing goods in an IKEA Store you are entitled to claim a VAT refund when you are either:
- Non EU resident
- Customers registered for VAT in the EU not in UK
Non EU resident
If you are exporting purchases outside the EU you may be entitled to a VAT refund.
If you are shipping the goods as freight please request an IKEA ‘VAT refunds for export outside the EU’ notice.
If you are taking the goods with you as on board luggage, you must request a ‘Global Blue’ receipt.
Customers registered for VAT in the EU not in UK
If you are dispatching purchases back to the EU member state where you are registered for VAT, please request either an IKEA ‘VAT refunds for overseas businesses elsewhere in the EU’, or for Irish customers, ‘VAT refunds for businesses in the Republic of Ireland’.
Please note that refunds can only be made to the persons who originally purchased the goods and cannot be made to any UK residents.
The notices will request evidence to qualify for a refund. IKEA must receive all necessary evidence within 3 months of the date of your purchase.
If you are purchasing goods online via the IKEA website to be shipped directly abroad, then you may be able to claim back the VAT on the goods (VAT can not be claimed for the delivery charges). Please contact the Customer Relations contact centre.

At present, you can pay with all major credit and debit cards including: VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard, Maestro, Delta, IKEA Home Card, IKEA Gift Card and cash.

Once the packaging has been opened on a mattress, for reasons of hygiene and safety, we are unable to refund or exchange it unless it is faulty
4. Can I return a made to order product?
Items ordered in store, to be delivered to you at a later date, can only be cancelled free of charge within 24 hours from the date on which the order was paid for. After this period, a handling charge applies to any cancellation. Orders for made-to-order sofas, once confirmed, cannot be cancelled at any time. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
5. Can I return goods I have opened or assembled?

1. How can I get large items home?
Most IKEA products are flat-packed, making them easy to transport. The IKEA store offers a home delivery service, if you prefer. Home delivery is not included in the product price.
2. What if I’m out when you deliver?
With a parcel delivery, if there is no one in, the courier will leave your parcel with a neighbour and leave a card with contact details for alternative delivery or collection.
With a truck delivery, we'll contact you 24-48hrs before your delivery to confirm the date and indicate if the truck delivery team will be with you in the morning or afternoon. If you want to specify a particular time, contact us in advance, and we’ll do our best to suit you. Click on Contact us.

2. How can I become an IKEA FAMILY member?
It is free to sign up and you can start using the benefits the same day. You can sign up, in store, via a paper application, in one of the IKEA FAMILY kiosks or online today
You get a temporary card on registration, your plastic card will be sent home to you within 4-6 weeks of registration. Your temporary card entitles you to all the benefits until the plastic card arrives.
3. How long does it take before I get my card?
It takes 4-6 weeks from application. If you have not received the card 6 weeks after registration contact an IKEA FAMILY co-worker in store or Customer Services on 0845 355 2259.
4. What do I do if I want to shop at IKEA before my card arrives?
You can always print out a temporary card;
- Via the kiosk in store by entering surname, date of birth and postcode

You need to show a card, plastic or temporary, at time of purchase to qualify for an IKEA FAMILY offer in-store, unfortunately you are unable to claim a discount retrospectively.

10. Can you tell me more about the free product insurance?
IKEA FAMILY members benefit from a free product insurance, against any accidental damage on the way home or whilst assembly. The insurance is valid on any purchase and not just items with an IKEA FAMILY price. The IKEA FAMILY card must be swiped at time of purchase to insure products. This is only valid to customers who transport their items themselves, not when using the IKEA Home Delivery Service. Items purchased from the Bargain Corner are not covered by the benefit. To claim on your insurance come to store within 90 days of the date of purchase to return any item damaged during transit or whilst building. Our catalogues are printed on totally chlorine-free paper and contain at least 10-15% post-consumer waste. No rainforest or old-growth fibres are used.
