Local community involvement
The IKEA vision is to “create a better everyday life for the many”. In developing our local community program, IKEA Perth has decided that one of the best ways to support this vision is to help improve the environment in which children develop in our local communities.
For over 8 years IKEA has partnered with HeartKids WA, a not for profit organisation that provides assistance to families with a child or children with a heart disorder.
IKEA Perth runs a number of in store and community activities for HeartKids WA, which raise not only money but also awareness of the organisation in the local community. These events include sponsorship of the HeartKids Gala Ball in 2013 and 2014, hosting the annual HeartKids WA movie day each year in July and hosting a HeartKids weekend each year, which opens up the store for HeartKids, their staff and volunteers to engage directly with our customers.
Another local community project that IKEA Perth has undertaken is with 12 Buckets. In November 2014 the Management Team from IKEA went into the local community and used their team building day to renovate a space for 12 Buckets at North Balga Primary School. 12 Buckets create tailored interactive learning spaces and strategic mentoring approaches within primary schools in the northern suburbs of Perth, where vulnerable and/or disadvantaged children can develop a range of socio-emotional and life skills.
In just one day, the space where the children and mentors work every day was transformed into an inspiring, colourful and useful space to work in.
IKEA is also a global partner of UNICEF and Save the Children. This relationship helps fund programs to improve the education and health of children in Australia and overseas.
