Soft Toys for Education
[National]  The 2012 Soft Toys for Education Campaign launches this November with the IKEA Foundation raising support, awareness, and funds.
The campaign provides improvement in education standards and quality of life for children in need across several countries including Lithuania, Africa, Cambodia, China, and the Philippines.

In its ninth year, the Soft Toys for Education Campaign has seen the IKEA Foundation raises upwards of €47.5 million worldwide, assisting more than 8 million children in 45 countries throughout its duration.

Every soft toy purchase made at IKEA between November 4 and December 29 will see the IKEA Foundation donate €1 to education programs supported by UNICEF and Save the Children.

Some of the many projects to be funded by the 2012 Soft Toys for Education Campaign include a program to facilitate family based care for children with disabilities in Indonesia, a Schools For Africa program that targets millions of children in Sub-Saharan Africa, and a project to fight discrimination and violence in Cambodian schools.

IKEA Store Manager – Anje Heim says, “We believe all children have the right to a healthy, secure childhood and access to quality education, no matter where in the world they live. These programs not only assist children presently but ensure they are equipped with the skills to build a positive and healthy future.”

Combining soft toys with fundraising provides an opportunity to increase a child’s awareness and understanding of challenges that other children in the world may be facing.

“Toys connect all children no matter what age, nationality, or situation - explaining to a child that the toy you are giving to them is giving a much more valuable gift to another child can provide them with an understanding of charity and what it means to give back,” says Anje.

The educational experience has been strengthened further with the introduction of the VANDRING soft toys including a range of ‘forest friends’ which act as an aid for teaching children about nature and environmental conservation.

“We collaborate with a range of experts to ensure that the soft toys we offer expand on just cute and cuddly, rather they act as a tool for education, creativity, and expression,” says Anje.

  • Customers have the chance to give twice with the opportunity to donate their soft toy purchase to Save the Children’s Perth based ‘It Takes A Village’ program after the IKEA check outs.
