IKEA Goes Back to their Roots with Rustic Trend
[National]  IKEA is giving their customers a little slice of the homeland with the introduction of the 2012 ‘rustic roots’ trend which has visible influence from the company’s Swedish roots.
The trend, which is industrial yet traditional, includes furniture pieces, textiles, and home accessories comprised of materials including pine, lacquered metal, clay, ceramics and natural fibres.

IKEA Interior Designer Kyle Johnson says, “The great thing about the rustic trend is that it can be applied in so many different ways. Strong metals and crisp white textiles can give an industrial appeal, yet the use of contrasting patterns, colours, and textures, can provide an air of warmth and comfort - no two rooms ever have to look the same.”

The trend includes several staple pieces including the HEMNES 3 door wardrobe, EKTORP three-seat sofa, and the HEKTAR pendant lamp.

“These sturdy yet unrefined pieces are beautiful enough to stand alone, but subtle enough to fit into any style of accessorising,” Kyle says.

Using a variety of fabrics and techniques, the textile range, which includes cushion covers, sheet sets, and throw rugs, demonstrates the ability for a piece to appear imperfect and rough whilst still being appealing to look at and touch.

“Combining natural fabrics like wool, cotton, and sheepskin, with different techniques including heavy stitching, results in a range of different styles; each as inviting, applicable, and liveable as the next,” Kyle says.

For those wishing only to include subtle additions of the rustic trend, a variety of home accessories are available including the BLADET vase, BRACKE tea light holder, and the GIRIG serving bowls which offer an understated yet striking option.

“People don’t just want to fill their homes with pretty things anymore - they want them to have purpose, that’s why the inclusion of on-trend yet functional home accessories is so important,” Kyle says.

The IKEA rustic roots style furniture, textiles, and home accessories provides customers seeking on-trend, functional, and affordable products with the ideal solutions; offering several pieces that can be used cohesively with one another or in addition to their existing pieces.
